Regulate Guns, same as Narcotics? - December 19, 2012, 12:12 PM

Argument has been put forth that goes like this: We regulate narcotics because without regulation, narcotics will have a net negative effect on society. By the same logic, we should regulate guns more strictly because they are having a net negative effect on society.

Any thoughts for or against? This is not my position on the whole gun issue, btw.

Heavily regulated, the cartels have taken over narcotics. No one used to die digging over cocaine dealers turf when you could buy it in a pharmacy.

The heavier the regulation, the more the cartels will get involved in the gun trade

Why get involved in the trade when you can get them straight from the government? Oh wait we're still overlooking that and Libya. Carry on.

BAN FACEBOOK!!! DEMAND A PLAN AGAINST SENSELESS UNFRIENDING AND POSTING THAT IS COSTING PEOPLE THEIR LIVES!!

Man Kills Couple Over Facebook Feud After They Deleted His Daughter | Radar Online

A 60-year-old Tennessee man took an online feud too far when he allegedly killed a local couple because they'd deleted his adult daughter from their Facebook account.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, Marvin Potter was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after Billy Payne Jr., 36, and his girlfriend Billie Jean Hayworth, 23, were found shot to death in their Mountain City, Tenn. home on January 31.

Previous to their murder, the couple had complained that Marvin's daughter, Jenelle Potter, 30, was harassing them, and therefore, they unfriended her on Facebook.

Also charged in the murders is Marvin's friend, 38-year-old Jamie Curd, who was said to have had romantic feelings for Jenelle.

The men were arraigned Wednesday; Marvin remains in jail on a $200,000 bond while Jamie's is set at $1.5 million.
While Jenelle isn't directly linked to the murders, authorities say Jenelle Potter has been involved in other cases where she claims to have been wronged by someone.

"It's a senseless thing," Sheriff Mike Reece said.
The dead couple leave behind an 8-month-old baby, who thankfully remained unharmed in the shootings.
Curd and Potter are slated to return to court March 7.

No, not regulated like, say heroin, where the cost to society in terms of its use as well as its regulation is high. Who would want to emulate that model? Its apples and oranges anyway- where is the debilitating chemical addiction to guns- and drugs like alcohol are more deadly than guns are. Regulation of guns would need to be more like the licensing to use an automobile; autos are registered to an owner, with proof of insurance, and proficiency its use or proof of training must be demonstrated.

In all seriousness, we should ban vagina. Its killed more people than any weapon imaginable and it still goes unregulated in most of the modern world.

Don't never trust nothin' that bleeds for a week and don't die.

Throughout history, every attempt a government makes to curtail or solve an issue with relatively inelastic demand using supply side policies typically fails in spectacular fashion.

- Volcker's monetary supply theory in the 80's. Fail. Economy crashed.

- Prohibition in the 20's. Abject Failure and led to the rise of Mobs and Organized Crime.

- Wars on Drugs. Fail. The CIA realized they could sell cocaine, to fund their silent wars and it led to the explosion of crack.
