The people down there appreciate anything and everything that people can do. My brothers parents-in-law live down there, and were hit very hard.

The paper this morning had a quote from the mayor that stated it will take around 3 months to dry N.O. up, and the need all the help they can get.

Praise to all that are helping with the relief effort.

there are also animals affected by the hurricane - there about 260 animals which have been taken from the Louisana SPCA shelter and have been taken to the Houston SPCA shelter.

Press Release:
Shelter Closing; Animals are Being Moved as Katrina Approaches

NEW ORLEANS (8/27/05) – The LA/SPCA will be closing at 5pm today and plans to reopen on Tuesday, weather permitting. The shelter only evacuates for Category 3 or higher hurricanes.

Twenty-five dogs that are being held pending court cases are on their way to Baton Rouge Animal Control to ride out Hurricane Katrina. Approximately 250 animals, strays and adoptables, will be moved to the Houston SPCA this evening in two 16’ climate-controlled trucks. Moving large number of animals is labor and time intensive and requires tremendous planning. The animals will return to Japonica Street on Tuesday, weather and building permitting. (Note: Japonica Street shelter floods extremely easily and may not be ready for inhabitants immediately following the storm.)

The LA/SPCA recommends that all animals be evacuated should the family decide to leave the city. Be sure your pet is properly fitted with a collar and identification tags. Also take along a photo of you and your pet in the event you become separated. Familiar pet toys and food will help keep your pet calm when in unfamiliar territory. Please remember that Red Cross shelters do not accept pets and the SPCA does not board animals under any circumstances.

Pets cannot survive if left to fend for themselves or tied to a stationary object. Those people who choose to abandon their pets will be charged with cruelty to animals.

All trapping of animals like raccoons, stray cats, and the like should be discontinued until the storm passes.

The Louisiana SPCA, a private non-profit organization chartered for the state of Louisiana in 1888, is dedicated to ending animal cruelty, eliminating animal overpopulation, providing quality low-cost veterinary care, and promoting the human and animal bond.

Saw this on myspace.com and I just called the police department myself....

For those of you who wish to give supplies instead of cash for the victims of Hurricane Katrina - we have confirmed with the First District police that 400 families will be coming to DC on Monday to stay in the Armory. They stressed that their biggest needs at this time are:

Bottled water and anything that would constitute a "care package" such as:

Toothbrushes

Toothpaste

Blankets

Undergarments

Soap

Clothes

These items can be brought to the First District office
415 4th Street, SW
Washington, DC 20024
Phone: (202) 698-0555
Fax: (202) 727-4026

Please help if you can.

Yesterday Jesus and I went to the Armory to donate our TIME....remember help is needed that way as well.

So instead of spending a night of posing in a parking lot, ride your bike up there and do some good. As 30 people stood in front of the Armory trying to help out....1000's of baseball fans strolled by watching us plead with the media and news cameras. Made me fucking ill to my stomach.

Sidenote- we did get escorted around the city in a police cruiser and saw what it was like on the other side of the badge. I have a new found respect for the Police...espec those working in the inner city such as Southeast.

"Is that your family in the car?" Thanks again
