Remember the Green Machine from the 70's? - November 15, 2011, 03:05 PM

For those of you old enough to remember them anyway.

There is now a full sized motorcycle version.

Notice how there wasnt a single helmet in that video. They show kids bombing down hills and throwing them sideways/completely around. These days, they would be condemned for promoting such reckless behavior.

LOL, yep. I Googled "Green Machine" to get an image of the original and got a pic of a kid with a helmet. I immediately knew that was not an original. I guess they are making a newer version as well.

Eh, as a father of young kids, I have no problem with an emphasis on wearing helmets. Mine wear helmets whether it's a tricycle, a scooter or a bicycle with training wheels.

Yeah, as a young child of the '70's, I rode in the back of pick up trucks and went cross country riding in the cargo area of a station wagon sans seatbelts.

Do I want my children to do the same? Not really.

Sometimes prevention isn't a bad thing. It's like my decision not to wear earplugs at the umpteen concerts that I went to when I was younger because that kind of thing was never recommended/promoted at the time. I have tinnitus/permanent hearing damage now. Do I wish that I had done things differently? Hell, yeah. Will I suggest that my kids do things differently? Hell, yeah.

Oh, and my Big Wheel was way better than the Green Machine...

Nothing wrong with helmets. We know better now. Plus everyone is doing it. When I was little if you wore a helmet playing outside your house... you were a retard!
haha!

Remember these fucking things?

I used to hop that death ride down cement steps, across the street, off a wall, into a pool, whatever!

So true. It's crazy how times have changed. I mean wtf, do parents love their kids more now? How many kids had to split their heads open before someone realized that helmets would be a good idea? I'm thinking a million+

I'm 3 of that million+ and in same damn spot each time. The best one was getting my head stuck between the bars on a bike rack at Fair Oaks Mall, after flipping backwards. Blood pouring down my head, crowd gathering around and the fire department having to come cut me out. Def one of my finer moments

Injuries add character and make you tough.......at least thats what my father told everytime we were going to the ER.
