Rental Car Tracking - October 24, 2013, 10:37 PM

So I've in DC for business, get my rental car, and after a day or so notice something keeps hitting my foot. I look down and damned if there isn't something plugged into the OBDII connector, which I can only assume is some kind of tracking device. It's not mentioned at all in the rental agreement, so I'm not positive but I can't see what else it would be.

As you can imagine, it somehow got accidentally unplugged about 3 seconds after I noticed it and I protested its use with a nice little burnout. Something to look out for next time you rent a car if you don't appreciate being tracked without notice.

It's probably like that thing geico uses to monitor driving habbits of the driver to adjust rates.

Just drive the thing. There's a few handfuls of Hertz's dream collection that have had terrible, horrible things done to them. Mostly CTS-V's and the AMG Mercedes'. They still let the people who did those things rent them

Could be worse, you could drive it like an asian man, and run over bikers. Too soon?

most rental car companies dont have any tracking devices as their security is to verify the person renting it via credit check or credit card and then just hold them accountable if the car goes missing
