Reputable/Honest Exhaust shop in NE DC? - March 10, 2016, 02:08 PM

I posted in an old thread asking for referral to good exhaust shop in NOVA then I realized I probably will get more help if I started my own thread asking for a DC location specifically so here I am...

I am trying to see if anyone could tell me of a reputable/honest exhaust shop in NE DC?

I am chasing some gremlins in my new old 2001 Ford Escape 3.0L V6. It keep stumbling on highway around 2000-2500 RPM usually above 35-40 MPH. This is an intermittent issue. While it runs pretty good in the city and at idle, it seems to lack power on highways or at some points of the trip. I suspect that it is one of my cats that are clogged up as it was misfiring pretty good when I bought the vehicle from previous owner. Misfires are known to kill the cats due to unburnt fuel flowing into them and burning them up. I got the misfires fixed with new coils and plugs, but the stumbling persists so I am on a mission to fix this. Also, I am experiencing very poor gas mileage.

Now, I would like to get verification on the status of my cats. If you know of any good honest shop in DC (preferably NE), let me know. I keep emphasizing honest shop because I know the cats are money maker for those shops and I don't want a shop to bullshit me that the cats are bad so they can make money off the cats and the labor when I plan on performing the repair work myself.

Thanks in advance

Yeah Kelly's performance and Kustom. I saw them when I googled up exhaust shops before posting on here. They have pretty good reviews all around. Guess it is no brainer for me to take it there.

I just would like to test my cats first before I start tearing into it. Hopefully they will be able to.

Thanks Von!

Kelly's.

I've had work done there several times over the time I've been here going all the way back to their old shop in Bladensburg.

He also talks 100mph and you may think he just did a bump of coke because he's kind of frenetic.

Not in a scary way - more in a Robin Williams way.
