Cheesecake factory always has great desserts!
(There is one next to Fair Oaks Mall and another at Tysons Corner.)

Amphora's in Vienna also has VERY VERY good desserts.

You would never expect it, but Aladdin's in Burke (it's near the Giant, KFC, etc. in that main strip) has an extensive assortment of cakes and things. It's a sit-down restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating. They have a glass case just inside, so you can check the desserts out and decide if you want to stay and try some.

Their food is great too--I go for their toasted pita filled with seasoned lamb. They have more dinner-oriented entrees, too.

Hey, they have a website. Just [click] on "menu" and then "dessert" (obviously):

Cheesecake factory is great, but I hate the wait.

For something ecclectic, there's Cosi (the restaurant/coffee shop) where you can get S'mores (regular or Oreo cookie style) and cook them at your table over a small open flame. There's a Cosi on the corner of King and Washington in Old Town. I'm guessing that there's one near Springfield and in Fairfax, but I couldn't tell ya.

+1 on Amphora!!! Ive been going to that place for at least a decade now. Just ate there on Sunday actually. For a 24 hour diner it cant be beat. Their shit on a shingle (chipped beef on toast) at 3am is awesome...but only if you have been drinking until 3am. Tex Mex Eggrolls are the shit too! Oh, but on the topic, their desserts are gooooooood.
