Glenn – thanks again for your time today. The position we talked about is a permanent position with a salary of $85 - $90K and the location is in Reston, VA. The client is available to conduct phone screens as early as Wednesday of next week and can bring someone on board as early as 9/14. The interview process consists of a 30 minute phone followed by a half-day personal interview with a 5 person team.

Main Purpose of Job
The Technical Consultant role is a customer facing role, aimed at providing customers with in depth support on the implementation and configuration of the Enterprise level Oracle based applications and desktop tools. The Technical Consultant will be participate in all technical aspects of the product implementation, including technical architecture, rules design and development, interface design and development, report design and configuration, installation of the products, setting up the underlying databases. Working on projects that include scripting and development using company specific development tools, working closely with RF engineers on taking business processes and turning them in to programmable rule-sets.
Key Responsibilities

  • Specify, deliver, install, and configure the company specific NSM products according to the requirements and specifications developed
  • Create scripts for data loading using company specific products
  • Develop and test product rules for company specific products using knowledge of the product and RF domain skills
  • Install, setup, and manage production databases with the help of data base experts
  • Provide technical consultancy and guidance to customer’s project team
  • Implement and optimize scripts based on functional specifications from RF engineers
  • Monitor and troubleshoot system performance and data loading
Requirements and Key Skills

  • BS in Computer Science or related discipline
  • At least 4 years of experience with integration techniques, software development, scripting and enterprise databases – maintenance and support.
  • Thorough knowledge of
    • Oracle 10g Enterprise
    • Development processes and languages such as Java
    • Scripting languages such as Php and Javascript
    • Installation of servers in the Citrix environment
    • Windows Server, Windows XP, Linux, Unix
    • LDAP and authentication
    • IIS and Apache
  • Familiar with deployment of business critical, high availability systems in a mixed hardware (Solaris/Unix/Linux/Windows Server) environment
  • Familiar with basic database administration, such as table modifications, database sizing, and security administration.
  • Familiar with enterprise scale applications (not just desktop products).

Domain Knowledge
In addition to IT – databases and scripting, experience in OSS with an emphasis in wireless telecommunications / RF engineering and layer 3 messaging a major plus.
Communications Skills
Is able to convey ideas and concepts in a concise and clear way (verbally and written). Has sound presentation technique, is experienced in giving technical presentations to small audiences, internally and to customers. Is able to write well structured and professionally presented reports.
Methodology
Familiar with corporate IT policies/practices. Demonstrates an ability to follow and implement industry standard methodologies, practices and standards. Where necessary is familiar with and can use appropriate document templates.
Consulting Skills
Has well developed questioning, investigative and listening skills. Is able to gather, evaluate and assess the relevance of information. Understands and can use basic techniques associated with influencing and negotiating. Able to manage and facilitate meetings.
Customer Facing
Demonstrates an ability to gain the trust and confidence of customers. Is able to quickly gain a position of credibility and authority with customers.
Career Development
This is a fast growing organization and there are many exciting projects and developments possible from this role, through the Technical Consultant career path in to Solution Architect or other roles.

Working Conditions

When assigned to a project you may be expected to travel to a customer’s site when requested by your Regional PSO Manager. Travel back at weekends is expected, unless geographical considerations make this problematic.
