"The Reunion" with Mia - December 28, 2009, 08:22 AM

Some of you have followed the saga as it's unfolded over the past few weeks. Well, yesterday evening, Mia's family invited us all over to their house for the reunion. Mia's such a sweet, quiet, young lady. It was so nice to give her a hug and really have the circle be complete. Emily and I, as well as our families, always wondered what happened to that baby we found that September afternoon in 1989. Last night, we were able to see for ourselves exactly what has become of her. Her parents said she was a perfect child and never really gave them any trouble. One day, Mia hopes to be an illustrator for children's books.

Our evening began with an interview with The Washington Post, followed by a champagne toast with everyone, followed by dinner then we all just sat around and talked and shared our stories and our feelings. The night concluded with a video that Mia's father made for us. It was Mia's life, her as an infant with her foster mom. With her sister at Disneyland. Her intermediate and high school pictures. Also, there was some video footage of Mia swinging in a cradle, her first crawls, her first steps, dancing in the kitchen with a good childhood friend, video of her doing ballet. It all concluded with a picture of Mia in her incubator at Fairfax Hospital, followed by, "Thank you Chris and Emily. Love Mia." The video was extremely touching and gave us a glimpse into Mia's life growing up.

Our reunion is covered in today's Washington Post in the Metro section. The photo gallery contains a couple pictures from last night, but there's also a couple featured in the printed version of the article that are not in the online photo gallery.

Merry Christmas!

It was extremely thoughtful of her father to make the video. It gave us a glimpse into the life we always wondered about.

Von, the pic you're referring to is my friend Emily, not the adoptive mother.
