RPC over HTTPS - February 24, 2009, 07:46 PM

Has anyone here ever set this up?
My environment is a multiple server/exchange environment.

I have a front end server running exchange/OWA and it is on Windows 2000, doesn't support RPC over HTTP.

My back end is the actual exchange server on Windows 2003.

The Global Catalog server is on a Windows 2003 DC.

Added this key to the DC
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\NTDS\Parameters

Type REG_MULTI_SZ
Name: NSPI Interface protocol sequences
Value: ncacn_http:6004

This is the registry setting for.
Front-End/Back-Server Config.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc\RpcProxy]
"ValidPorts"="server-fe:100-5000;
server-be:6001-6002;
server-be.domain.local:6001-6002;
server-dc:6001-6002;
server-dc.domain.local:6001-6002;
server-be:6004;
server-be.domain.local:6004;
server-dc:6004;
server-dc.domain.local:6004;
mail.external.com:6001-6002;
mail.external.com:6004;
server-dc:593;
server-dc.domain.local:593;
server-be:593;
server-be.domain.local:593;
mail.external.com:593;"

My question I guess is, since my Front-End Exchange server which is the OWA server isn't a 2003 machine will this not work?

I tried just doing the registry setting for a single exchange server environment and it didn't seem to work.

I add a firewall VIP rule with a separate ip address that is pointing to the backend server https. Normally my owa firewall rule points to the front-end server.
