I'm going through my 5 year review right now so I can't jump ship. Sometime in December / January I'll be looking for a new position. I've got my SCI, but no lifestyle poly... Experience is mostly in computer forensics, and intrusion investigations, but have spent the last 3 years as a network engineer.

Clearance - July 18, 2006, 08:58 AM

What happens if you jump ship during or right before your five year review? I ask because I just recieved a job offer and want to accept but my clearance is up for reinvestigation and due to the problems OPM had, it is going to take awhile.

Dont let that get out ok?

If your clearance is being worked on by OPM, I woud NOT change jobs just b/c it would totally screw you. The office is so slow and any changes like that would most likely let your clearance lapse and that would be even worse.

Paulio, you didnt mention clearance. Would the company maintain yours if you didnt need it at that site?

Negative ghostrider. Companies submit paperwork to say they no longer have the employee. If your new company requires or lets you keep your clearance, they can submit the paperwork to OPM.

If it was cancelled, it would cause more work for the already overworked OPM office.

It will if your new company doesnt send in the paperwork. They can actually make it so that you can keep your clearance even if you dont need it.

Anyone who tells you that it cost a company $$ for sec clearances is full of shit. It is free of charge and paid for by taxpayers $$.. Eg OPM...

I've got more chances of succesfully dialing up Ms. Jolie and asking her if I can hit it.
