Snowboarder Dies from Accident at Whitetail - January 12, 2010, 07:19 AM

My buddy is a Ski Patrol. He got this memo yesterday:

Re: Limelight Incident

It is with deep regret that I must inform you that last evening a young male
snowboarder sustained serious injury when he slid into the woods off the side of the
Limelight Trail. The Whitetail Ski Patrol was notified and responded immediately to
the incident. The snowboarder was transported by Mercersburg Ambulance to Washington
County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland where he was later pronounced as deceased.
At this time we will not be releasing the name of this snowboarder until we are sure
all his family members have been notified.

We wish to thank the entire Whitetail Ski Patrol and other Whitetail Staff for all
they did to assist this young man.

I know everyone joins me in sending our deepest sympathies to the family of this
snowboarder. Please remember to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

we saw what could have been a horrible accident at snowshoe.

Out of control snowboarding was heading straight down a black with all his weight on his back foot and wasnt able to turn. He finally looped and slid a solid 20yrds hitting a caution banner between 2 poles stopping about 3 ft short of the big snowblowers on the ground

I've always had that fear at Whitetail. There are a few slopes where I've always thought there wasn't enough protection on the sides.

Him too, but also Mike Kennedy back in 97' or 98'.

Mikee- did dude hit the snowblowers? Thats like 300+ pounds of solid metal I was in the zone blaring some music and snowboarder was sitting in middle of blind turn somewhere on snowshoe, clipped the edge of his board could've been bad. Both of us almost needed change of boxers.

He stopped like 3 feet from it head first. It as the big blue ones that are kinda down a little on the side and the opening with the blades is right where he was sliding towards.
