Snus and E-cigs to quit smoking - October 19, 2009, 02:02 PM

Anyone else use Snus or E-cigarettes to quit smoking? If you've been to Hard Times you've seen my Snus and e-cig use (the modded black box!), wondering if anyone else does to. Snus is spitless chewing tobacco pouches...don't stain your teeth, taste like azz or give you mouth cancer in a couple of years. They sell them refrigerated at the gas stations. Have been smoke free for a few days using Snus, waiting for some $$ so can cobble another custom e-cig together, better lookin than the big ass one I got now.

I bought an e-cig a few months ago and didn't smoke regular cigs for about 3 days after getting it (about a 3/4 pack a day smoker), but then relapsed while it was charging and haven't really gone back to it yet. I think they're great and think that it could really work for me, I just need to stop procrastinating and get back on it.

Eff that...you need to build or buy a custom one. Mine runs off rechargeable AA's...the OEM batteries suck azz.

Brian, would if I could. Lack willpower when it comes to smoking. Must run in the family, my dad started up 5 years after he quit and smokes more than me now.

Maybe for some these things work, the pills, cutting down, gums etc but I have yet to meet someone where it actually worked and lasted.
I find that most people who quit and really want to quit do it cold turkey just like drinking.
I use to drive a tow truck, then a tractor trailer and was on the road 15+ hours a day smoking up to 2 packs a day.
I quit 1 weekend 13 years ago and haven't had one since. I did it even while still driving all day long. I just chewed a lot of gum and drank a lot of soda. For me it was more of simply something to do out of boredom and as long as I had something to chew on and the act of actually putting the gum in my mouth it wasn't too difficult!
My wife has tried this gimmick and that but she always goes off it and back to smoking...

You have to WANT TO QUIT in order to be successul. I agree with the cold turkey, it's tough though!

Don't drink if your trying to quit, that will never fly!

My Dad did the hypnosis, patch, gum, meds, etc. Nothing worked excpet cold turkey.

I used the willpower/cold turkey method as well. DECIDE to quit, not to replace one bad habit with one that's "not AS bad".

The issue with replacing smoking with smokeless methods is that you are still feeding your body nicotine. As a nicotine addict, you're body will constantly be searching for it's next fix of nicotine. And face it smoking a cigarette is like driving a ferrari. Right now using an e cig and SNUS you are toying with a corolla.

Do yourself the best favor you can do. Just stop. Mark off days on a calender, keep a log of when, where, and why you wanted to smoke. And just keep writting until you don't want to anymore (cell phone memo pad).

I just up and quit on July 20th. I will miss my cigars, but i'm not risking any nicotine intake into my body again for the life of me. I smoked for 11 years strong and I'm done with it. Nada mas. I decided to NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF.

What do you value more? Life or Image?

You guys are right. I've gone all today without any smoke, even with the commute and another trip up to fredneck mid day. The night time is gonna be harder though. No snus or e-cigs either.
