SOLAR IMPULSE - AROUND THE WORLD IN A SOLAR AIRPLANE

They're planning to have it at Dulles this weekend for the “Become a Pilot Day”.

It won't be arriving before Thursday. It will take 24 hours or so to get here from St. Louis and weather is a big factor in weather it flies at all.

Dang, I have Friday off - hopefully it is then. Recommendations on where to camp out and take some pictures? Who here went somewhere for the space shuttle flight?

Looks like it may have a chance of taking off on Friday and it would arrive Saturday. Have to watch the winds to know which way planes are landing when it comes in order to decide where to go to watch it.

I've got to work this weekend. So unless it arrives before ~6:00am or after 2:30pm I won't be able to go watch.

Hopefully the impending weather doom doesn't hamper them.I expect that they are going behind this storm front that is in the mid west.

They're planning to depart St Louis tomorrow at 5am EDT. It will land in Cincinatti tomorrow night. It should depart there early Saturday and arrive sometime after midnight on Sunday morning.

This may call for a midnight ride.

Ah...well, I would probably go if my bike weren't in pieces right now. I don't really feel like driving, but am tempted just to see this thing fly. Keep us posted on what you hear and if you're planning on going. Maybe need to meet up if there is a chance of getting close to it.

Now heading from a holding pattern southwest of Staunton to a hold over the Gordonsville VORTAC. Should be there about 6:25.

Heading to the Casanova VORTAC now for another hold.

Online I can hear the ground crew discussing which runway they will use. They are leaning towards 19L right now.

I'll probably park at the W&OD trail lot on Pacific Blvd.

Cleared in to hold northeast of Gainesville.

Won't begin descending anymore until 11:45.

11:04- Get getting directed to head north of Dulles where it will hold. Nevermind it will take two hours to get up there. Ground crew said don't worry about it, ATC will soon realize.

Prince William Co 911 is reporting a lot of UFO calls tonight.

You would've never made it. It landed a little after midnight.

It was a short final approach so I ended up on the access road right under the approach. It sounded like spring peeper frogs but very faint.
