Spike Lee to Direct American Version of South Korean Action/Thriller, "Oldboy" - July 11, 2011, 06:08 PM

This should be interesting. He did a good job shooting Inside Man and Miracle At St. Anna.

The action sports documentaries he's been shooting lately have been well received.

Interested to see how he tackles his first full on Action/Thriller.

Spike Lee is currently working on his next feature "Red Hook Summer".

The story centers on an adult from Atlanta who comes and spends the summer in Red Hook section of Brooklyn, NY. Lee will be reprising his role as Mookie, the Brooklyn pizza delivery worker character he played in 1989′s "Do the Right Thing."

Shooting has just kicked off on the project which would mark his first non-documentary since 2008 war film "Miracle At St. Anna".

Also today, Mandate Pictures has officially confirmed that Lee will direct the remake of the highly-acclaimed South Korean film "Oldboy". Lee was rumoured for the job late last week, but now it's official.

Original Oldboy

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

- Nicolo Machiavelli 1469-1527
