Steve Jobs Cleans House... - June 30, 2010, 05:40 PM

Looks like he gave the drop kick to a number of Antenna and RF engineers.

Quote:
Apple recently posted job openings for not one, not two but eight Antenna Engineers, according to its website. Some of those engineers would be working on the antenna system architecture of the iPhone and iPad, according to the job postings, in order to “optimize the radiation performance for wireless portable devices”.

Still according to the postings, candidates will be expected to “performance radiation performance measurements (SIC), create test plans, execute them, publish test reports, provide feedback to the other design engineers, and lead some of the manufacturing of antenna”. You’d need 10+ years of experience and possess “strong problem solving skills and strong working knowledge of radiation performance” if you want the job.

In addition, Apple is looking for two people to fill the role of ‘iPhone OTA Wireless Systems Engineer’, who would be “validating the radiation performance of wireless portable devices” and three people to serve as ‘RF Systems Validation Engineer iPhone’.

Hmmm. 2 thoughts.

1) This could be smoke and mirrors to appease the public who think there really is a serious issue with the phone.

2) The record demand might have precipitated the need for additional staff.

3) Apple's antenna engineers failed 2x with the Ipad (Broadcast freq issues) and Iphone and Darth Jobs is no longer pleased and finds their lack of skill disturbing.

i returned my shit. fuck that

my phone also had a non-functioning light sensor which really sucked as well. so when the phone itself ACTUALLY WORKED (which was rare), then the light sensor issue would make my cheek hangup on people.

reception with at&t in frederick was already close to horrible BEOFRE this phone came out. my 3Gs with 4.0 software will do for now.

ok. well here's the scenario:

before I bought the iphone 4 last week, my contract with at&t was ending this july 14th 2010. THEN, when I got the new iphone 4 at $299, my contract MUST be extended another 2 years.

so now I had a shitty ass phone that DOES NOT work nearly as well as my 3Gs, and another 2 year bullshit contract, and im out $300. If I sold it on ebay, they will NOT re-activate my 3Gs, and they would NOT have reversed the contract either. They aren't stupid

so i returned it. got all my money back. got the contract reversed so my contract now still expires in 2 weeks, and I got my 3Gs reactivated and got the 4.0 software. im good.

I'll go with number 2 since those jobs were posted BEFORE the phone even came out.

And what makes you think Apple didn't know about the issue before the phone came out, but were so far down the road with type approval and tooling, they couldn't turn back.

Your blind faith in companies (or rather their senior executives decisions) is worrisome.

One word: Dell

They knew the capacitors were bad on hundreds of thousands of Optiplexs, and had the high probability of causing the entire computer to fail, yet still launched anyway.

You're right. I have blind faith in companies.

Your insight into my mind is amazing.

I bow to your wisdom

Word sometimes, it's too late to make changes. There's always the next revision. Hopefully you don't lose customer confidence by then.

Fack Dell. Those capicitors will swell up and that was the end of it.

if this were in a bunch of different locations, i may see how that would work. but, they're all in the santa clara area. maybe reception there sucks or they need to expand...or both.
