Strange Request ... Assistance Appreciated - March 26, 2009, 08:00 AM

I work for a direct mail fundraiser and we recently launched a very successful campaign for a donkey rescue. This organization claims that donkeys are slaughtered in Canada and Mexico just like horses. Another one our clients claims this is false. I have found several resources that make the same claim about donkeys being sent to slaughter (Humane Society of the United States, Horse Race Insider, etc.) but my attempts to get substantial supporting information/documentation have been unsuccessful - my calls and emails go unanswered. I am hoping that someone here on .net may know someone at the HSUS they can put me in contact with. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Lizzie

I contribute to a Donkey Resuce organization that places donkeys in happy homes in Tijuana, Mexico. There they live out their days in carefree bliss performing for the locals and tourists.

Holy god.

Some folks located near my parents are selling donkeys. My best friend in ATL and I are interested in becoming donkey farmers. Georgia only has a couple donkey farms. I want to find some real studs and breed them. Only the best ass.

I'm gonna guess that if these donkeys worked harder, they wouldn't be slaughtered. Times is tough, maybe this is how donkeys get laid off?

Right up the 1 hole.

^^ laff

maybe the ones getting slaughtered are old and lame? I don't think they make resting homes for donkeys.

I Have Nothing To Contribute.

Chicks are like jobs...all the good ones are taken and they can't pay you enough to do the ones that are available.

If they did, I'm sure our taxes would have to pay for it.

The HSUS website states that horses and donkeys ARE slaughtered in Mexico and Canada. http://www.hsus.org/horses_equines/i...slaughter.html

Anyway, sorry to hear that.... I've emailed the HSUS and received reponses in the past. Here is someone who responded to one of my questions recently and might be able to point you in the right direction:
