Super (ish) car question - November 27, 2015, 03:32 PM

Curious how buying a car like a Viper works.

A while back I was hot and heavy on buying an RS5. Ultimately I passed and am happy I did. However when I went to go shop one, the dealer wouldn't let me test drive it. They wanted 100k without testing one out. However buying a 60k M3 they'd let you drive it all day. H9w is that logical?

My question is do most people buy 100k + cars without driving them first? Vipers aren't in most showrooms and if you had to order one how do you know if you'd even enjoy the ergonomics of the car? Rent one for a weekend??

LeoFella (?) works for Fantasy Garage in Rockville. I'm sure you can talk to him about purchasing supercars.

That said, it's not unlike any other car purchase. You talk to sales person, they vet you a bit and make sure you're not some kind of loon who actually could never afford the car but wants a joy ride. You arrange for a test drive and if you like it, you leave a binder and direct the finance team to being working up the financing package (if you're not bringing your own).

Test drove a lot of nice cars. R8, Viper, F430, etc. Dealer was being a dick.

Always wanted a Viper and that one of one program seems like the best thing ever. What year viper and did you like it?

Ways off due to life but later 2016 early 2017 I am praying, hoping, wishing I can pull the trigger. My worry was I really wanted a 370z after my M3 but after driving it I fell out of love real quick. Would suck to put down 130k on a car you hate driving.

**yes I know I'm in dream mode**

That's right. He had a Gen 2 iirc.

We do allow customers to test drive cars, assuming they are ready to pull the trigger. So typically we'll discuss price and options and finances first, and then with all that in place we'll take the car out.

This is to protect inventory and avoid joy riders

Seems like in aviation the common method is to discuss price, secure financing if needed, get the prepurchase inspection from an uninterested aviation mechanic, then once the entire amount is in an escrow account, the prospective buyer can fly the plane.

I'll be kinda boned on mine. First person to fly it will be me, the builder. If it falls outta the sky, nobody to blame but me

You're building a plane, Fitz?

I wonder if anyone sells an add-on modular chute system like Cirrus integrates into their planes?
