Taste of Dirt...and a bigger taste of AIR!!! - September 27, 2006, 08:32 PM

As some of you know I bought a supermoto a little while ago and one of the reasons I bought the bike is to learn how to slide the bike around and back it in.

Well, I went to a local construction site and was spinning the rear around and playing in the dirt when I noticed that the way the dirt was I could do some jumps. Well, at first it started with me jumping down some hills which averaged around 3 to 4 feet in height.

That was fun but I wanted even more air so I found a mound which was basically like a ramp so I was able to get about 5 to 6 feet of air no problem...although the space was limited so I wasn't able to get much speed and when I landed there was a wall of dirt so I had to brake pretty hard...no big deal.

My question is, are there any dirt parks in our area? I looked over Budd Creek's info but they are limited to just races and I'm more interested in just going somewhere and playing around and doing some jumps. Maybe racing will be something I'll do but I doubt it...I'm leaning more towards actual supermoto racing (half dirt/half road) so I don't want to do all out dirt races.

Are there any areas someone can recommend or trails?

I never realized how much fun jumps are...no doubt some of the most fun I've had on any type of motorcycle....tomorrow I'm going for 7 to 8 feet I'm going to video tape it as well

As a person who's childhood was spent with four-wheelers, dunebuggies, dirtbikes, threewheelers, and big old honkin trucks in the mud at construction sites i have to warn you -

be careful:

You're trespassing

and the ground could be completely unstable and there could be all sorts of shit mixed in the dirt

that said, I want to go next time. hahah.

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I was looking for! Although I think I'll have to throw on a street/dirt style tire before I tackle this!

Thanks!

I'm going to video tape it today...nothing big just a few jumps. My camera is old school so I'll have to get it converted to digital. If the area is still good for jumps I'll get some pics this weekend.

I'll have to go to a park, the place I'm at has a short run up to the jump...probably something like 10 to 15 feet so it's hard to get much speed up. Then...when I land there's about 10 feet left for me to stop so I'm limited to about 6 maybe 7 feet if I compress the suspension and pull hard.

20 feet...ooooh....I'll have to build up to that but I'd do it

Karli thinks I'm nuts though

It's actually VERY clean so far because they haven't started building the houses...and it's also pretty much isolated which is nice.

I'm sure they'll change it all up soon so I'm just hoping to get in some video and maybe some pictures while I can. If I'm luck I'll have a few more weeks to enjoy this area but once it changes I plan on going to some dirt parks to play around.

it's just depends on the ramp, the longer ramps makes u go further, the short and higher ramps makes it high jumps....you'll love it man...

i did dirt bikes before for like 5 yrs...

then i figure i try street bikes....
