Tech Heads - Linux / Red Hat Installation Help - July 15, 2010, 03:33 PM

My pops is trying to load Linux/Red Hat on his laptop (Win 7).
He wants to give Linux a try but when he puts in the installation CD nothing happens.

It opens the folders and shows the files, but clicking on the files outside of READMEs do nothing and none of them appear to act like an ".exe." file to get the installation process started.

The instructions say something about going into the BIOS and booting from there, but the CD-ROM drive has always been able to install off a CD. Moreover, he doesn't have a clue what file to point to if he were able to get into the BIOS.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Thx.

I tried to push him in that direction, but he's transfixed on this Red Hat stuff.

Pops is like that. Stubborn, transfixed.

I haven't used Windows in a few years, but during the boot process when the BIOS is loading, it's something like "F12" to enter the boot setup. From there just direct it to boot from the cd.

Bingo. Well it looks like that did the trick. Weird.
