Techies: Computer Chairs at Home. The Good, the Bad & The Ugly - April 5, 2018, 10:25 AM

I have a cool home work station set up, but I went super cheap on 2 different types of ebay cheapo chairs. I spend 8 to 14 hours a day when I work at home.

The cheap chairs all broke after leaning back on them real good. My office chairs are great, but they run $600+ a chair.

What are some good chairs that help with lower back, adjustable arms and do not cost a fortune.

I may need 3.

Good chairs will cost money, I was lucky and an old job I had moved to a new building and was tossin' out perfectly good chairs, so I took one, it's a humanscale and they paid around $1000 but it's amazing, model is freedom task.

La-Z-Boy recliner with the laptop in your lap. Works for me. If needed a 2nd monitor (for console or whatever) I would just have it near the recliner. I don't like multiple monitors though...

Good chairs cost money. No way around this.
If you’re on your keister for +10 hrs a day don’t go cheap.

That said, I took the hit and bought a Humanscale Executive 15 years ago.
I once sat in it for 16+ hours with no fatigue or discomfort. Build quality has held up extremely well. I’ve only had to replace the arm pads once when they began to wear out however every other component functions flawlessly.

Search for second hand ones on Craigslist or EBay. Even if the seat pan is worn and needs to be replaced, they’re well worth the investment in my opinion.

Didn’t see your reply but that’s exactly what I bought. The executive model has the entendres high back and headrest.

Love the chair. I actually take it to new office and job sites, and leave the company issued junk in a corner.

All right since I work at home more than at the office (they have $1000 chairs built more for durability than for comfort... Govt) Ive found that I prefer to sit on my lazyboy couch (not a reclining couch, just very comfortable) more than in the office in my house, the chair is the culprit, a $30 ikea special, but Im only willing to spend maybe 250, used is ok, what is the best chair I can get for that?

IE Best value, used ok, $250 or less, preferably less.

Used Herm Miller Aeron or the Humanscale Liberate (Basically the model down from Freedom).

Edit: It’s the Liberty, not Liberate.
Here’s one for $170: https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/...520557049.html

Herm Miller’s you’ll find all over the used market like Honda Accords. Frame sizes A-C depending on how big you are.

If the chair is leaning, get rid of it.
Ergonomic support is critical for someone who has it sit in a chair >2 hours at any one time. The heavier you are, the more important this becomes

hey Von, if you are looking at buying the Humanscale, maybe we can negotiate a better price buying together. Let me know.

Yeah, $250 isn't gonna get you a quality chair. It's kind of funny when people will spend money on cars/bikes etc but when it comes to things you need for health we cheap out.

Ya'll come off that chedda and treat yo self! I have never been happier to sit in a chair since I got that Freedom Task, I've had Herman Miller's before at jobs and I hated them.

I was at the DOL today. Had to stop by the Office of Safety & Health. They were doing ergonomic assessments and guess what almost everyone in the office had?

Humanscales.
