Ticketing on private streets PWC - September 15, 2011, 03:10 PM

Can Police issue tickets on private streets? I came home today and found a dead inspection ticket on my bike but I live in a neighborhood with private streets and the bike isn't even close to visible from the public streets.

Check the county regulations.
In most counties a vehicle can be ticketed for expired registration even if it is on private property. If it can be seen - it will get a ticket. It's not often enforced though but it seems today was anal rententive cop day for you.

Registration expired; cover the vehicle or remove the plates.

I've seen this done a lot in Manassas. I'm pretty sure it legal. I don't believe they can do it while in your driveway, but on a street it's fair game.

Perhaps you could register a complaint against the officer for trespassing?

I'm wondering if I could. For the PO to be able to see it from a public street he/she/it would have to be able to see through 3 rows of homes and a row of townhomes. Just my luck, I get facking Superman cruising my area!

From what i have read, a registered vehicle must maintain a current inspection. Un registered vehicles must be stored on private property....blab....blah.... blah. That, and the fact that most HOA Reichs allow the cops to ticket for such things if it isn't in a driveway or garage.

They can and they will. Like Heist said, cover the vehicle. More often, cops don't cruise the neighborhood looking for expired registration. They rely on your nosy neighbors and HOA nazis to report you.

PWC will give you a ticket for a vehical hidden in your backyard undercovers that you are restoring if you don't have all the stickers, i know for a fact. they normally find out from asshole neighbors that tell on you, why they would i have no idea. but yes they can and will do it legally.

Thats jacked up. I knew they could, but whats messed up is that someone told on you. There is no rhyme or reason for someone to do that. You got beef with someone?

sort of like someone calling on you because you leave a trailer on the street unmoved for x amount of days.
Cops come and mark it, tell me it has to move every 48 hrs i think or they will ticket it. So what do I do. Roll it back to one side of my drive one day, move it to the other side the next.
It's such a freaking joke and waste of much needed resource elsewhere.

One of the main reasons the do it is so that there aren't a bunch of junkers/projects/illegal vehicles all over the streets and visible to the public.

It sucks when you get it on your bike that's merely missing the sticker but it's still the fact of the matter.

Besides, if you don't like it then go pay the small fee to get it inspected.

Or just take off the license and claim it to be a track bike. There is no law stating that you can't place hobbies or sports equipment in your own property. Within reason and withing HOA rules of course.

You risk towing with no plates, not so much on your own property though.
