Hey All,

I don't know how true this is but I just heard that in MD and possibly many other states that if you get a ticket with points and overpay you can possibly avoid the points. Let's just say you get a $200 ticket with 2 points and you overpay the ticket by $10. The state has to issue a $10 refund to you and your case is not closed and apparently the don't assign the points until the case is closed. So the state issues you a refund but you don't cash it, you hold it and wait for it to expire (90 days?). From what I hear the points don't get assigned but again I don't know if this is true or how exactly it works. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone have any experience with this in MD or any other state? This is just for conversation, I don't have any tickets or points but it would be nice to know if this does work.

Thanks,
James

Yeah I heard about this too a while ago where if you overpaid your ticket by $1 and never cashed it then the ticket would never be processed right. This has been out for some years now so I'm pretty sure they(the 5-0) have cought on to that scam by now.

I'm going to have to call BS on this one. Think it's mostly urban legend. Check out the Snopes write up and decide for yourself.
