Time to find myself - October 3, 2018, 07:35 AM

A couple of months ago my son took his life. My wife left a year ago and I have nothing in this area for myself anymore. I am packing up my car on November 2nd with some camping gear and a bunch of money and I am heading out. No particular plan, no particular direction. Planning on heading west and staying south during the winter months. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm at a loss for words, brother, no words can express my condolences.

I don't have any suggestions for a path but you'll always have friends in this area that you can reach out to if you ever need anything. I wish you the absolutely best in your journey and I hope you find what you may or may not be looking for.

Sounds like an adventure is just what you need. Be safe, and I suggest reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance if you haven't already.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss and hard times. Pick up Ghost Rider by Neil Peart. He had a very similar situation and found himself on his motorcycle. It's a great book. Perhaps this will help you on your journey.

I know a biker and racer who had an epiphany. He had his own business, good health, very active with hobbies like road racing bicycles and down hill racing...
After two family deaths he decided to sell it all.

So about 2 years ago he bought a trailer/camper and pick up and set to just travel across the country. It look like he originally followed certain bicycle races but over all he just drove..took pictures, and wrote blogs about living simpler life and just finding himself...he and his dog.

Change is good.

You only get one life to live and when it is not what it should be...we def need to go and find something that will make it worth living.

since winter is coming I would def head to warmer states...once you hit the left coast...plot courses back this way.

Analyse and see if a trip abroad is needed.

Whatever you do I hope it brings you peace and solace....

Dang sorry man. I'd recommend getting a Thousand Trails membership, it lets you camp all over the country. I stayed down in Florida for a couple weeks with it. There's a location near Disney if you like that kind of thing. There's locations all over the country. I hope you find yourself.

I can't even fathom the pain and mental distress you've endured the last year.

I have nothing to contribute outside of follow your heart and passions, and I wish you safe travels.

Taty,
Godspeed to you, Sir. No father should have to bury his child. I hope your journeys keep him close to your heart and that you get to see him in the people, places, and experiences that are to come.

I've heard Zion National Park in the winter is beautiful, though I have only been in early summer. In late July, go to Glacier National Park. Lake Bowman is my favorite spot. Really nice ranger up there who works it for the summer.

If you have any interest in Japan, there's an ice festival in Sapporo at the end of January. Kyoto is also a great spot to spend at least a few days.

I'm so sorry to learn about this... No words can make any of this better, just time and acceptance. Getting away for a while is probably a good idea, and I've seen that people that have had to overcome moments similar to yours often do so by helping others as a way to bring positive vibes back into their life.

A big hug to you and don't stop writing here: I've also moved away for the time being but I always come back here
