Time to Move - July 26, 2007, 04:12 PM

So a buddy of mine down in GA walks into his room the other day and finds the attached chillin on his head board. I know a lot of you are going to ask yourselves, "So what? its just a little spider." Do a google images search for "Brown Recluse spider bite" and it wont take long to realize this is one of the LAST things you want in your bed. Oh yeah, and they are all over the place around here too. Sleep tight everyone.

I'm currently doing my annual training time down at Ft. Pickett.. These little bastards are well known in these woods.. and I've seen on bite from one put a man in a hospital and almost lose a foot. But get this.. there was a soldier here today that got a nasty little bite by one of these babies.. right on the very tip of his tackle.

damn.

luckily, most bites do not end in necrosis of tissue.

Your face melted off in the mirror!!!? How long did it take to heal?

I have had encounters with spiders before. Wasn't a recluse but I got bit on my eyelid when I was sleeping and my eye was swollen shut for a few days. So, spiders bites of any kind are no joke, go get that sh*t checked out if you suspect a bite is from a spider.

I used to live in Australia, came home from school one day and one of these was on my doorbell. Behold the Redback spider (a close relative of the Black Widow).

Their bites aren't usually fatal, but they'll give you a nasty fever for a few days, among other fun symptoms. These suckers are all over the place in Australia.

Top that off with the Australian Funnel-web spider and you've got some nasty little things running around.

An a related note, I also saw a Taipan snake go under my mom's car just as she parked it and was getting out. The Australian Taipan is considered the most venomous landsnake in the world, 20 times more venomous than a cobra.

What a fun place to live, eh mate?

the bite happened on my right calf, the venom spread to my hands and face. after 3 steriod shots to the face, 1 in each open sore on my hands, and 2 to the leg, it took about 5 weeks for it to get noticably better on my face, hands about 4 weeks, and my calf about 2. doctor told me that the original bite always heals more quickly because the body fights that area first, and the secondary sores just go rampant.

I keep the .40 next to my bed for a reason. If I lived where this guy lives...this would be one of them:

I got bit by a brown recluse when I lived in Texas. Luckily, I was already on antibiotics. It only melted a marble sized hole in tissue on my shin. It's mostly healed. The scar looks like I got shot with a .22

Yep yep... nasty suckers. We had them all over the place in Mississippi. I can't even count how many of them I killed.

I swear that would give me a heart attack if I saw it above my bed... Then nightmares! And I'm not all that scared of spiders.
