True Story ...Door to door magazine seller - August 10, 2011, 12:31 PM

*doorbell

him: Sir, Would you like to purchase some magazines or give a donation to help a black man as myself thats been in jail to start a better life?

me: No, but if you give me your number I can put you in contact with a few individuals that will invest in your future by giving you a full time job that pays well with little to no work experience.

him: Thank you sir.....*walks away

me: 0.o *closes door

I left out the intro where we talked 10 minutes where I grew up in a bad area, didn't have a dad, etc. He didn't even try to give me his information.

There was no job. I didn't appreciate getting bothered on a Saturday morning to buy magazines. I also knew he was more into the get the money quick instead of earning it. Only jobs I can get you in is if you have a TS and vmware cert

I've had that happen before. There are a few "outside sales" gypsy like companies who run this thing. They take people around in vans from county to county or even state to state selling magazine subscriptions door-to-door.
They make shit money and are frequently jerked out of their commission, but take the job because 90% are either:

(1) Run away kids: Who take the job because it's the only thing they can get and it gets them away from their state. They typically run away again once they reach a state they like.

(2) Ex-Cons: Who no one will hire. It's a verifiable job, and meets the qualifications of their parole.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

- Nicolo Machiavelli 1469-1527

There's also the possiblity that the dude thought the job of which you spoke was definitely too good to be true... Turns out he was correct, amirite?

Unless its someone I'm expecting or the UPS guy, I typically answer the door with a .45 in my pants and promptly as people to get the fuck out of my face. Call me crotchety... its just how I roll.

I honestly feel very little sympathy for anyone that decides to use drugs and lets it ruin their lives.
Yes it sucks, yes you're trying to get back on your feet, but many of us have struggled and made it with hard work.

You should have pulled him inside and asked him if he knew how to launder money.
