Undercover police - The real thread - November 27, 2006, 10:11 AM

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/27/nyc....ap/index.html

According to Kelly, the groom was involved in a verbal dispute outside the club, and one of his friends referred to a gun.

An undercover officer walked closely behind Bell and his friends as they headed for their car. As he walked toward the front of the vehicle, the car drove forward, striking the officer and minivan, Kelly said.

The officer was apparently the first to open fire, Kelly said. He had served on the force for five years. One 12-year veteran fired his weapon 31 times, emptying two full magazines, Kelly said.

In total, it is believed 50 bullets were fired, he said. It was the first time any of the officers, all of whom carried 9 mm handguns, had been involved in a shooting, he said.

The police department's policy on shooting at moving vehicles states: "Police officers shall not discharge their firearms at or from a moving vehicle unless deadly force is being used against the police officers or another person present, by means other than a moving vehicle."

So, let me get this straight - three cops pop 50 rounds into a car with absolutely NO PROVOCATION? Yeah, right. And can you say "credible witness," strip club dancer girl??

Whatever. Was it excessive? Maybe. Was it unprovoked? Come on.

Define "provoked" for me.

It appears to be shit talking about a gun in front of a strip club by dudes who were probably drunk. Then an unidentified man follows them, accosts them, parks them in with an unmarked van, then shoots at them as they try to leave... 22+ bullets into the car... 50 bullets sprayed around the area... 2 clips used when no gun was identified...

This is the problem I have with undercover cops, there is no way to legitimately tell who they are... not only that, according to the law (that thing they are supposed to uphold) they were never within thier rights to shoot the vehicle... ever.

there were 8 suspects who attempted to beat a patron up outside the club only to be broken up. they then split into two groups of 4 with one group being the car that got riddled with bullets from the cops guns after the suspects rammed another car and the cops car so doesnt that constitute deadly force? just wondering

Gotta agree. The dudes may have been drunk and being dickheads but even if they were driving drunk and being completely beligerant there's absolutely no reason to shoot at them without threat of deadly force being used. That 'he tried to run me down' crap don't work. If it did how many dead cagers would there be around this area huh? That cop needs to be demoted to Wal-Mart greeter or some other safe unarmed position.

I'll repost this for clarity.

"The police department's policy on shooting at moving vehicles states: "Police officers shall not discharge their firearms at or from a moving vehicle unless deadly force is being used against the police officers or another person present, by means other than a moving vehicle."

A group of guys who are hot from an altercation, and you follow them, don't identify yourself, park them in, and accost them... unmarked. Then you unload. Sounds like mismanagement by the cops, they escalated the situation then killed the guys.

LoL carnage you have obviously never done tactical reload drills. If it's true that officer, unloaded a full 2 mags into that car. It is very possible. It can be done with speed-loaders for a revolver as well.
The whole situation is very sketchy, and the officers deftly need to be put under review.

+1
Also, 50 rounds fired and only 21 hit the car? Don't they train at a shooting range? I mean damn, nobody was firing back at them.

Probably just a lot of shots through windows that were blown out early in the unloading of two full clips. This would be murder if they weren't cops.

i had a conversation at work about this.. I understand that he was undercover and that he doesn't want to blow his cover but how do these people know who he (undercover police officer) is when he is in plain clothing and pulling a weapon out on them and not identifying himself? Would you just sit there? I am not saying you need to attack the guy- but if someone in plain clothes was boxing you in and pointing a gun at you...wouldn't you try and get away?

Wow. Just..................wow.

After 9/11 NYPD hired almost anybody they could.
One the first things they teach you at the academy is identify your target before you fire.
50+ rounds, and only 21 hit the car. Especially with that many officers firing, something is deftly off about this.
