Unlike the US with BP ... Europe aint F*ckin around!! - October 11, 2010, 03:07 PM

'Human negligence:' Toxic sludge boss arrested - World news - Europe - msnbc.com

Pretty cut and dry :

You did it, you knew about it and you didn't do anything to stop it.

We're takin your company!
We're tossing you and anyone else who is linked in jail!
We're siezing your assets!
You and your company will pay for it all!!!!

I really hope those in charge of the BP spill are taking notes. It didn't take them 3 months to do anything. It didn't take a whole panel and 3 weeks of hearings to get answers or lack there of.

God Speed Jeff! You'll never be forgotten.

BOOSTZX3 : in all seriousness head injuries ain't no joke. I've had around 10 concussions and now I ride a Buell Don't let it happen to you!

Different business laws allow Hungary to do this. America was set up as a free enterprise state were corporations are seen as living entities and given many many rights.

But Hungary is still a nails hard country. Dude may end up in the goulage for awhile. Should have taken the first private jet to Switzerland.

""Hungary's largest ecological disaster was caused by human negligence, by allowing a hazardous material to escape from a plant built and operated by people," Orban said."

That right there is the difference between here and there.

Here :
If you run company X, and the company does bad shit, it's the 'company's' fault.

I'm sure the 'company' is really torn up about it.

There :
If you run company X, and the company does bad shit, it's your fault.

You can't insulate yourself from liability by hiding behind an 'inc'.

A company isn't a person. It can't take the blame for you.

p.s. Not a legal opinion. It's the gist of what's gone down.

Popular Mechanics had a detailed report on the BP incident. It was really interesting to learn all the shortcuts that not only were taken to cause this accident... but how many of the shortcuts are commonplace throughout the drilling industry.

As for the above article... Thumbs up

Then again... That's just me.

Unfortunately, here in America that not the case. Corps here are afforded Corporate Personality protections under law:
"The distinct status of a business organization that has complied with law for its recognition as a legal entity and that has an independent legal existence from that of its officers, directors, and shareholders."

Gulag, yes. Sometimes the spelling portion of my brain doesn't work so well.
I was using a bit of hyperbole when I said gulag comparitive to what he would have gotten here in the US.

Sometimes it's good to be Hungarian, sometimes it's not.

That explains why I act upon things as I do.

This is exactly why I enjoy not being of one specific nationality other than redneck. This way one specific country or race can't take the blame for my actions.

You Yanks are still confused, too worried about being 'Italian', 'Irish', "Hungarian" or whatever. No other nationality goes around saying they are "1/32 Irish on my Mother's side"

Stand up and be counted as "American", every day...not just at the Olympics. It's not a bad thing...really.

90% of those claiming to be "Italian" have never been there and don't speak the language.... Makes me (and the whole boot shaped country) laugh at the ragazzi

aren't these things standard issue by now?

But almost no other country in the world outside of a few small island nations has a near 100% immigrant population and as much ethnic mixing as America does.

It's sort of what drives the ethnic identity subdivisions and the need to classify what you are.

It's sort of like saying "I'm a Washingtonian" - there's always the preface of where you came from before deciding to live here because more than half the population isn't from Washington.
