Update, with a few pics - January 27, 2008, 03:46 PM

So as many of you know yesterday I proposed to my long time girl friend Katie. Ive actually known Katie for over 12 years, I can actually remember the day she moved in down the street.

Ive actually been planning to ask her to marry me for some time, been waiting on her ring, and wasn't 100% on how I was going to do it.

Well everything came together this weekend, I was able to sneak away Sat morning and pick up the ring, and because she had talked about skating in DC I was able to put her under the guise that this was just another little cute weekend event.

Thanks to Styles and his last minuet availability I was able to have the moment immortalized.

So, we arrived and just in time to get on the ice for the 3 o'clock session. With Styles (Will) and his bro in law waiting in the wings we were in full swing.

Once we got on the ice she and I took a couple of laps, and when the time was right and there was an opening in the middle I lead her there and got on one knee. She immediately began to cry, what I didnt know is that while I was proposing the entire rink took notice, and stopped. After she said yes there was a round of applause.
We took another lap and then over to Styles and his brother in law for some more photos.

We then got some hot chocolate and walked around the sculpture garden and took some more photos by ourselves, and headed back to our parents houses to spread the good word, and start celebrating.

Here are just a few pics, its obvious which one Styles took. When I have some more I'll post them up.

The ring was custom made, designed based on a compilation of several rings, made specifically to fit the center stone which I picked up in the late summer/early fall at the international gem show at Dulles (If you know what you want and are willing to haggle there are amazing, amazing deals to be had).

IGS Inc in Vienna is the only shop in the tri state area that employs a full time platinum smith. These guys are amazing, and their quality is amazing, plus their prices beat every shop I talked to (I talked to a lot).

The center stone is just over a carat and a half, cushion modified brilliant cut, its a good quality diamond, VS II, H in color, Ex polish, Ex symmetry, Ex cut. The setting is platinum, with 130 round brilliant diamonds totaling just over 1.9 carats. Im amazed at just how perfectly it turned out.

If you are in the market IGS, 444 Maple Ave., Vienna, Va. 703-281-1888, Ed owns the shop, tell him Brad sent you, BTW his dad works out of the shop, his dad, Ed Sr. is one of the areas foremost appraisers, hes an avid rider, has a sick HD.

Attack Life! It's going to kill you anyway.
