my fridge/freezer just stopped working.

power went out this morning, and it seemed like it was working this morning.

ive unplugged and replugged in. i switched the breaker, and nothing.

the electronic front water and temp setting guage works, but it's not getting colder. it's not an old unit.

it's a GE

ge? do you hear the fan int the freezer running? I have learned that it is common for the evap fan to quit and when it does it takes the control board with it. I was able to jumper a parallel circuit to power the fan.

If the fan is the problem the freezer works but not the fresh food.

By flipping both the power switch and breaker numerous times the end result could be harmful. Short cycling the compressor causes it to go into thermal lock-out or worse; lock the rotor on a weak compressor. UNPLUG THE FRIDGE, pull the access panel of and visually examine the refrigerant coils, wires, and lightly touch the compressor (may be hot). If the compressor is hot we may have something to work with. If it is cold, all is not lost, but it is more severe and possibly terminal.

Somebody left my freezer open over night the other week. After that my fridge stopped working. What happened was all the ice coating the freezer wall melted and ran down into the vent or whatever, then when we shut the door it froze up and blocked off any air going to the fridge. We had to take off the back panel in the freezer up against the back wall and chip all the ice out, then let it melt. Maybe this is what happened to you. The ice might have melted and ran down when the power went out.
