He's using three RC helicopter gyros to stabilize the airplane. Amateur, but interesting. Also makes for some smooth video

http://vimeo.com/1588738

My plane setup is a homemade foam board airplane with a big undercambered wing (just curved foam board) and a tall fuselage so the camera can look out under the prop. I have an Axi 2826/12 motor on it with a 70 amp Jeti ESC (I went overboard for robustness). The batteries are FMA's 3 cell 3200 mah lipos and I love their chargers. I use three 401 gyro's to stabilize the plane. The ailerons and rudder stay in the heading hold mode and the elevator stays in the rate mode of the gyro. The FPV is through a KX 191 and 500 mw 900 mhz transmitter to a DVD player I keep in my truck on the seat. The camera that records the video is a Sanyo HDA1 720p HD camcorder that records directly to SD card. I use a Spektrum 2.4 DX7 Tx and an AR9000 Rx.

If you're ever really interested, let me know. I'll steer you in the right direction and get you the best deal.

China has everything thing locked down on the cheap side. Some of the stuff is in a warehouse in Delaware, so shipping isn't too bad.

This sight owns me.

I got a buddy who's really into this stuff. He had video goggles. I wore them once while the plane was flying around and it was a pretty neat experience.

Amateur or not, I was still impressed. Like being in the airplane as it flies around. I even saw my house in one of the videos. Pretty cool to me.

I would love to see his set up. Or your set up as well.

Post up your videos or a link to them. Can always watch more stuff while at work.

Yeah I saw that. He left out the gyros and probably a few other things. The set up is quite simple. But its always better when you see it up close for yourself.

Now...where is the video of your set up? Whatcha got?

I don't have any setups I can share right now. I'm working on a personal one that should be ready in the spring. I can show some of that when it happens.
