Arrow Visiting Hawaii, what to do? - September 29, 2009, 10:48 PM

So I'm going to Hawaii (Oahu) for a few weeks and I'll be with my girlfriend most of the time, but she has school and work, so I'll have some time to kill alone every once in a while....

So my question to everyone, what should I definitely look into, what places to visit, places to see, things to do, etc, etc

You get the point, thanks in advance, I appreciate any and all information

Which island? Each one offers different things to do.

If you are on Maui, rent a Jeep and take the Road to Hana, climb Haleakala, do an ATV tour, zip-lines were moderately amusing, take a helicopter tour to one of the other islands to see a volcano. I didn't scuba there, but I'm sure it would be great. Learn to surf.

And you could always do what I did and get married!

North Shore, Hanama bay for snorkeling. Avoid Waikiki beach it is over crowded. If looking for a bar find red lion in Waikiki it is a dive but has good drink prices. Can't remember all the names but avoid the towns begining with "W" especially after dark.

I lived there for a few years:

-Go to Shark's Cove on the North Shore
-Hanauma Bay. 100% go there. Just check before you go that they're open. I know they were closing it one day a week. Absolutely beatuiful bay for snorkeling
-If you need souvenirs go to the Swap meet on a sunday. Cost $3 and it's awesome!
-Sunday afternoon at 4pm go to Duke's Canoe Club in Waikiki...best live music on the island. Stand around and drink beer with diamond head in the background. But get there early because usually a line forms. That's where a lot of locals go on Sundays
-Get a burger at Kua 'aina burger on the north shore in Haleiwa. Best burger EVER. Follow it up with shave ice (snow cone)
-If you want a chill place to relax on the beach where there aren't a lot of people, head out to Kapolei. Man made lagoons but still gorgeous.
-Eat kalua pig. It's phenominal and you wont get anything close to it here on the mainland
-Hike Manoa Falls. Pretty easy hike to pretty waterfalls

As i think of more I'll post it Have fun!!!

  • Duke's
  • Hanauma Bay
  • hike Diamond head
  • Go see my friend Robby Naish in Kailua (tell him he owes me another t-shirt and see if the orange course race board is still on the wall - he hit Teriteau with it when I was calling the race) - go kite surfing in front of the shop
  • take a long board surfing lesson
  • Pipeline at sunset - and the sushi joint right before you get there
  • get open water certified by the crazy Navy dive instructor who runs the small shop in town - then drink with him.
why are you asking this when we know why you are really going there ?

Go to the Tantalus overlook on Round Top Dr. If you were go there around 4-5pm on a Sunday you may see a bunch of bikes up there parked along the overlook on Round Top Dr, some possibly riding wheelies. Take Tantalus Dr up there, it will make you wish you had your bike. The "Punchbowl" WWII cemetery is near there too if that's of any interest.

There is also the Pearl Harbor museum and USS Arizona memorial you could check out.
