Let us know how it works out. I've been thinking about doing volunteer EMS for awhile.

Good for you! I have a friend who is a volunteer at Evergreen off 15. Also, my step dad has been a career firefighter for the last 20+ years in Fairfax County.

Good luck with it all!

My roommate is a volunteer ff with Loudoun County, in Sterling. I'm sure she'd be happy to chat with you about it, if you want to know more....

I actually just submitted my app. for career here locally.

Seems exciting. Looking forward to it.

I figure it's a very hard career to enter, so if I can get in here, I'll have a leg up when we move. If it doesn't work out, I can just keep doing what I do now.

Don't know exactly what testing/training will consist of yet, but when I do I'll relay the info.

Right up the 1 hole.

So the county dissolved the GDVFD on friday. All of us volunteers have gotten screwed because of what the county says was issues with the leadership. The members were not made aware of any of this and givin a chance to fix any problems internally. So as it stands now they are paying carrer staff to run the calls spending more tax payer money since they kicked us out. I understand and agree there were problems but to disbanned a volunteer fire company because of one man is rediculous in my opinion. Great decision making Prince William County.

Not sure I have ever heard of this happening before. Usually it is the other way around and they get rid of the "Career" Firefighters and bring in more volunteers. Especially in an economy like we are in now.

Sorry to hear about this. Just curious if it was a "safety concern" that lead to this by the county.

I'm sure they say something about safety concerns. But they just dissolved us without any warning or anything. Thats how PWC thanked us for volunteering. It was a shitty deal for the volunteers who had nothing to do with any wrong doing. Sorry for putting in 36 hours a week for free to help out my community.
