Voting: Not to sound like a dunce but..... - November 1, 2010, 01:46 PM

Why am i voting again???
I live in DC and voted for the mayoral run back around sept 18th or so...

I voted for Fenty and he lost...

So low and behold Nov 2nd there is another Vote im confused...
I mean it was only like 2 people running for Mayor of DC Fenty and Gray.

Fenty supporters are saying Write in Fenty for Mayor...I dont understand that also.

so why am I voting again on Nov 2nd?

Ive voted since turning 18 years...i love it because in my house hold not one person votes...not my parents for siblings.

I give them shit when they bitch about Bush or whom ever the Mayor is.

I tell them they dont have the right to complain. Then I heckle them to death until they throw me out lol

anyway..I just go and vote twice , but i always wonder why. I understand the presidential race and voting...but not Mayoral in DC.

I don't really get it either. The Sept election was the Primary. I don't think the Republicans have someone running so there is no real competition for Gray but I guess legally there needs to be a public election. There are a couple independents running but they have no chance of winning.
I guess you can vote for your Rep in Congress but it's a symbolic position since it's a non voting member.

The congressional representative from DC is allowed to vote in committes only. The seat has been held by Eleanor Holmes Norton for around two decades now, and I could be wrong but I don't think she has any legitimate competition this year.

here is my thing....we vote.

we cast a vote based on who we "FEEL" is the most qualified candidate to run the office.

We get that "FEEL" based on how they campaign...which could loosely be translated as a game to see who can A) raise the most money B) trumph the other candidates.

Their campaign is based on how well they present themselves and take a stance on certain political issues surrounding the office they are seeking election...

somehow there is ALWAYS a disconnect between what they state and what actually happens once they get into office. Like how to people know EXACTLY what they are capable of doing before they have even done it??? unless they have done that specific thing before they don't know.

so we are really blindly electing people we FEEL would do the best job.....

im asking for the Mayoral race.....
so what im getting is that rep vs dem the 1st round, but since there wasnt any real comp in the rep side in DC, it was boiling down the two Dems to one.

So tomorrow its just a vote for the only person who is really running.
