War in Syria - May 6, 2013, 07:19 PM

I predict we will be involved in the Syrian civil war within the next month after having sat out of the conflict for the last 1+ year.

It will be used as a means to deflect attention from Benghazi.

Either a new war, or another engineered financial/fiscal crisis

Cynicism. I like it.

And not out of the realm of possibilities either.

Also, please note

Once again the side being portrayed in the media as freedom fighters and patriots Is the militant Islamic side

There is almost no secular presence within the resistance

Which means, assuming Assad falls, We will have created yet another Islamic theocracy

I predict more Allah Snackbar videos on liveleak. I'm fascinated with their tactics and marksmanship.

We have nothing to gain by getting involved. Its a loose-loose situation all around. Let the Israeli's handle it. I can only hope that this president, and congress, may have learned something from their predecessors. I hope...

The US seems to have this idea they need to stick their nose in too many conflicts worldwide. And it goes back a loooonggg way. Not thinking of any administration in particular to respond to your inquiry. But Bush II might be the standard posterchild of the modern time, of what not to do. But then again it goes back to Clinton, and others before.

I'm tired of this country thinking they need to be the World's police force.

Besides, in Syria, its muslim militants killing muslim militants. IMHO, that's win-win all around. But sadly, in any war, civilian collateral damage is a travesty. We cannot solve the worlds conflicts. And when we try, it blows up in our face. So I say stay out until we are genuinely threatened, and mind our own business.

My opinion, I'm sure plenty of you will disagree.

I don't disagree with the idea that militants killing militants is not the problem of the United States.

That not withstanding, Iraq is probably (at least to this point) the only successful variant of this type of involvement to date.

If by involved you mean militarized logistical, intelligence and training support or do you mean boots on the ground/fighters in the air? Because if you read some of the wires and watch some of the non-big5 network reports there are a bunch of signs that point to the first description noted above already happening. Just the tactics alone that the rebels are utilizing are strangely planned out of certain Task Force field handbooks. Like how to hunt and take out tanks in urban environments.

I think that we will be supporting Israel with a show of force and with providing an enforced "no fly zone" in theater with troops on standby to get dusty if the Israeli's need it.

Then of course, the nation will need "rebuilding" after they are democracy'ed to death. Then it will be time for contractors and others to come in and make a bunch of American companies boatloads of money.

Yep. I have a lot of respect for the Israelis. They're not pandering, they're not in some bullshit negotiations, they just blow up shady shit and then don't fucking comment.

THEY are our allies, not these Islamist groups in the ME.
