War on Terror = Gigantic waste of money - February 15, 2011, 11:57 AM

But this year marks the 10th anniversary of 9-11 and none of the horrible scenarios conjured then have materialized. Islamic terrorists have not flown more planes into buildings. They havenít detonated ďloose nukesĒ or dirty bombs. They havenít released nerve gas into subway stations. They havenít poisoned the water supply. They havenít even strolled into one of Americaís hundreds of malls or farmerís markets and blown themselves up.

Maybe this is because enhanced post-9/11 security has made America invulnerable. Or maybe the Islamists never posed that a big threat to begin with.

It is no co-incidence that a decade-long FBI search has failed to find a single genuine Al Qaeda cell in the United States. Forget the U.S. where the local Muslim population is fairly assimilated: Glenn Carle, an operations officer or spy with the CIA for 23 years, notes that Al Qaeda has failed to do meaningful recruitment even in Europe, where Muslims are much more disaffected, attracting no more than a few hundred to training camps in Afghanistan over the years.

FBI talking to crazy people on the Internet and making fake 'weapons transactions' with them doesn't count.

Did we get our Trillion dollar's worth?

Should we spend another Trillion to find more crazy people on the Internet and sell them fake weapons in a "sting"?

Dude, look at the link i posted. Several bombings have been foiled.

Besides, the people who continue this war are voted in by you and me. If we have a problem with it, we should vote them out.

No one is to blame but us, if anything.

Also, regarding sting operations: if they didn't try to do business with the FBI, they would have found someone else. Stings ARE a measure of success.

A man known as "Witold" attempted to spread a misinformation campaign downplaying the threat of islamic terrorism. He was refuted by a prominent member of Virginia's white supremacist community.

I guess that terrorist cell in Buffalo was manufactured by the Illuminati and George Bush, eh?

Hahaha, I didn't catch that at first...

...And started looking at info like this:
Relying on materials provided by the government (including recordings and FBI agents' affidavits), the defense argued that the plot was proposed and closely directed by the FBI's informant, who "suggested the targets, paid for the defendants' groceries, bought a gun, provided the fake bombs and missile, assembled the explosive devices and acted as chauffeur"

According to that wiki, you are looking at 20 cases. There's probably a bunch more that can go in there, like the crazy dudes in NYC that put a bunch of cheap fireworks and gasoline in a car and parked it in Times Square. Technically, you can say it's a terrorist attack... a pathetic one.

And vast majority of the more legit sounding attacks are based on very questionable info, where FBI informants lead people on, provide them with info, materials, and money to concoct their 'attack'. But without that FBI informant, these crazy people would never get anywhere on their own.

Of course I'm not saying that all attacks are fake. The shoe bomber guy seemed legit. There may be a legit attack that materializes from time to time as well.

Is it worth spending 1 Trillion dollars to stop one crazy guy from killing a few people under the name 'war on terror'? As a country, we have limited resources. Things need to be prioritized. Spending so much on such a minimal threat and minimal benefit is simply a waste of money.
