Washington Monument(DC) parking ticket - December 17, 2014, 07:20 PM

Guys-

My brother got a parking ticket for $50 in DC. He was parked right in front of the Washington monument(NW Constitution Ave). That whole area has free parking with 3 hours limit from 9-4.

His car was in the middle of two cars, really tight and and he was sitting in it because he couldn't pull it out.

Cop came and gave ticket to him(4:08pm), left parking tickets for cars behind and in front of him. Ticket says "[x]Towing Requested" and "[x]No Stand Rush Hours PM"

Should we fight the ticket or it's not worth it in terms of the hassle? Any input and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance

Only a $50 ticket in DC?!
Your brother got a discount. They must have been having a ticket sale that day.
The sign said 4pm was the deadline and it was 4:08.
Pay it and move on.

BTW - Why didn't your brother hop out the car and tell the agent that he's waiting for the cars that wedged him in to move? I'm sure the ticketing agent would not have stroke the ticket if he spoke to them first.

He got out of the car and talked to the cop and explained him, he said that it's too late and he had already issued a ticket.

Once they put the ticket in, its too late. He could fight, but he'll lose, as he was parked there past four.

Did he take a picture of his inability to pull out?
If so you can fight and win the ticket, however its a PITA to fight tickets in DC, and they are only open during normal business hours, ie work hours. Wife and I fought and won a ticket near there not long ago, but we had the day off as we were heading out of town and it was kind of on the way.

No pic? Pay and move on.

Online adjudication is where it's at.....even if you don't win, you don't have to pay the ticket for at least another 6 weeks while it makes it through the hearing process.

Those two cars must have both been touching his bumpers if he couldn't get out.

Cut the wheel all the way, reverse until you bump. Then forward till you bump. Repeat. You'll be surprised at how small of a space you can fit out of, or into.

If he doesn't have pictures proving he was boxed in, he won't win. Having the pictures doesn't guarantee success, but it helps.

If he does have pics, can OP get them to show us?

They do not play on constitution ave after 4pm...They come down with a few tow trucks and tow your car off the streets and put it on the grass/side walk.
Constitution gets soooooo jam packed. Thats why the police are writing the tickets and not DC. Not sure if the tickets Metro police writes are different than the meter maids but that is a break. IF they had to tow it would have jumped up even more I believe.

Like the rest said, if you have pictures id try the online adjuster and send the pics showing your inability to move because of being boxed in.
At most they may knock it down.

So it can end up that you pay what they wrote, pay nothing, or pay a smaller amount.
As long as it is not paying more than the ticket and no time waisted inline down in DC...I saw its a win win.

Thanks for all of your comments guys.

Unfortunately, he didn't take any pictures and cop left after writing the ticket. He waited there, till other car in front of him moved and then left from there.

Though him and I have few days off next week and we can show up at the court if it is going to help, else as I mentioned earlier he is going to pay it.

BigDaddyShoo, what do you mean by online adjudication, online appeal?

vonstallin, yes you are absolutely right. As I mentioned in my original post, it says 'Towing Requested'.

DC modernized the ticket adjudication process about 2-3 years ago and allows you to type a 5000 word explanation and electronically submit pictures to support your case for a dismissal or fine reduction.

I've used it twice with success. Had a major $250 whooper dismissed because I proved, photographically, that the signage in the location I park at was inadequate and conflicting.

The other was a $100 reduced to $50.

There are some pros and cons with living in the Modern age DC....

Pros.
Dc do not want to have offices open for anything dealing with vehicles....
So Lic renewals are all online
tickets can be paid online,
registration renewals
Parking permits,
The only Inspection you do now is emissions once every 2 years. No more safety inspections.
So now you can roll up in Limo Tint and not get fucked with...your bumper can be dragging the ground and have no problems getting thru...
Shit you do not even have to have a license plate on the car..shit went rediculous now hahahah..

Oh and for motorcycles you get a permanent inspection sticker so you never have to take it in.....I think Trailers also...
Anyting they only do safety inspections...so that is great.

the cons

If you have to go in for new shit...like
new tags, new license then you have to sit in long lines...
but at least most of those offices are in locations away from down town and have good parking.
