Wedding Bands - March 13, 2012, 06:22 AM

Which material do you have and why? Each seem to have pros and cons.

Coated stainless. I bought it because I like a little black on my finger. <peter griffin laugh>

On a serious note, I got this one because I liked the color and weight. It's also got contoured edges so it doesn't cut the shit out of you when it binds up. The finish is very durable as well.

My first band was a traditional gold ring and it looked like someone had been chewing on it within 4 months.

The only real pros and cons are cost, status, and personal preference. The only other pro you will hear advertised is how "strong" the metal is. This part is true but truthfully, if your ring gets scratched up too much it is very easy to repo lush no matter what metal it is. Only wetback is that some metals are not easy or not possible to resize when it comes to rings.

- Harder -
Tungsten
Titanium
Stainless steel
Platinum
Palladium
10k Gold
14 > 18 > 22 > 24k Gold
Silver
- Softer -

- Expensive -
Platinum
24k Gold
22k Gold
Palladium
18 > 14 > 10k Gold
Tungsten = Titanium
Silver = Stainless Steel
- Economical -

The other variable is the weight of each, but I'm not gonna break that one down. What I would say is more important is the width, thickness, and shape (comfort vs squared).

Btw, I personally prefer 18k white gold cause I like the weight but for rings I'm fine with 10k white due to increased strength against scratches. I think Platinum is way too overpriced IMO.

I have a Tungsten ring.. I like the weight of it and the rounded edges..

I really only got this because I am rough with my rings and the titanium is bomb proof.

I've rubbed it up against concrete, brick, other metals.. just about everything. not a scratch on it.

I'm having pauliodotnet make mine...

Going with a 10mm platinum band in a traditional beveled edge pipe cut.

I wanted to go with platinum because it, in essence, turns in to an investment as time goes on. I have a few titanium rings which I really like for what they are but I don't care for the lack of weight and I do like the rings with a carbon fiber inlay but I honestly don't see that as a wedding ring.

Tungsten, I liked the look of the metal, sometimes I wish I'd gone with titanium though, I don't care for wearing rings and the tungsten is heavy enough that some days it irritates the shit out of me.

-Craig

Confusing the issue, since before you were ugly.

Woody: i'd probably bang her if she didn't look like a man

thanks for the shout

let me know if you want to chat about your bands.

I went platinum, but the other popular one is white gold.

if you are going cheap then i know some guys that just go tungsten.

For the wife I got platinum as well. Women have more of a personal preference than most guys, so just make sure you make her happy.

I actually have 2 bands.

1st and original = Platinum. It's nice but it's real soft. Can get dinged up and scratched pretty easily, especially if you're a mechanic or are rough with your hands.

2nd ring = Brushed stainless steel. I can open beer bottles, rub against concrete and work on my bike without any worries.

Something a lot of peeps don't think about when buying harder rings such as platinum...if you're in an accident and they need to give an MRI and your hand is swollen enough the ring won't come off, they'll cut your finger off to save your life.

I was told that when I went into the hospital once. I may have been told wrong. They say they can't simply cut a platinum ring off, so if it's the ring or your life...bye bye, Digit
