What Anti-Virus Software do you run? - June 30, 2008, 09:05 AM

Ok, I have a new computer (and yeah, it runs VISTA) and I'm just curious what you all use for virsu software if anything. I usually watch what I download but you never know....Im running Nortons now and thats what I usually run but I am always looking for upgrades!

I have been using AVG for a while now and like it alot.
Norton hogs so much resources that I hate it.

They have a free version.

I run the AVG free as well. Always the highest rated free software from what I've seen.

+1 for AVG

-1 for Norton

I work on a big network and Norton doesnt catch shit. AVG on the other hand is very good about detecting problems immediatly. The other thing I dont like about Norton is the size of the update files. Bandwidth is a problem here and downloading a 10-20Mb file is troublesome to say the least.

I use AVG Free on my Vista box

AVG Free along with Spydoctor. I even have CCleaner and AdAware sitting on the system when I feel like really mopping the system up!

Threatfire and Antivir - use them both on two Vista machines at home. Free, and highly recommended. Check out http://forum.notebookreview.com - EXCELLENT site with some very helpful folks. Couple of things you can do to get the most out of Vista, as well as recommendations on software

I use a free antivirus called avast!

It doesn't hog resources, and some of the modules that come with it, like the Outlook plugin, only load when you open Outlook. Updates are fairly regular and small in size.

For web browsing, I also use firefox with noscript as some above have listed.

Anti-virus software is essentially useless against the 0-day stuff so the only point of competition is really price, so by all means, go with the free ones.
