What cloud storage do you use? - October 24, 2013, 09:20 AM

I have done the google and come up with a few. OpenDrive seems to come up a lot.

Opendrive lets you sync and backup. files are accessible through the web anywhere. you can even allow a guest to upload/download.

webdav is in beta.

$120/year for unlimited storage from unlimited computers, iphone, ipad.

What storage do you guys use? Just curious besides what google says.

I have macs and windows at home.

Skydrive because it was free, i already had it due to my outlook.com account, and i didn't care about large volumes of data.

Glacier because we only care about 1 way (barring a fire/flood) because we have multiple redundant systems at the house, and amanda's picture archive is huge. Their pricing for uploads TO their infrastructure is super cheap. Restores can get expensive. But we have a data recovery rider on our insurance, so if a fire/flood destroyed our computers and NAS's, that would be reimbursable.

We haven't implemented it yet, but Glacier seems like an attractive solution for archiving if you dont plan to download the stuff often. Like i said, unless there's a major disaster, we won't download any of it

I use Box.com. Therre was a promotion which gave me the first 50GB ol storage for free (caveat of 100mb filesize upload limit for free accounts.) for life.

It generally serves all my needs more than adequately and allows individuals to access files, upload, stream media from their servers, download them, modify (if you authorize them), and upload to your shared folders.

They have an app for all major Mobile OS's so you don't need to go through the web client if you do not want.

Their rates for storage are competitive but not the best. I believe if you want the cheapest storage around Amazon's back end Cloud has the least expensive plans, but, from what I understand it's plain old data storage. Box offers a great user interface and sharing and productivity tools.

No. They're a US based outfit. I believe located in Texas.
The only thing I would use the Chines company for is storage of crap I could care less about if I lost access to it.

Fitz, what kind of Encryption software are you using to encrypt your data?

I think CryptoLocker is the best - it's very good at encryption.

There are tons of customer testimonials as to how well it has encrypted their data.

Pretty nasty virus by the same name. And the threat of permanent encryption is real.
