What do you feed your dogs? - October 13, 2008, 09:57 AM

Just wanted to see what everyone feeds their dogs?

Most people don't do their research when it comes to dog food and this is a very important part of their lives. Dog foods such as Science Diet, Beneful, Iams, Eukanuba are not good dog foods.

I feed my dog a complete raw diet that comes frozen. It consists of mainly meat, bones, organs, and a few veggies. Raw is the best diet you can feed your pups. That is what they are supposed to eat, after all they are wolves. There are however some good non-raw alternatives out there that come in the form of kibble.

There is a pet nutrition center in Ashburn that sells these foods. Everything they carry is biologically appropriate for your animals. They also have a great pet nutritionist that works everyday. She is there to offer free advice and help your animals out with any type of problems they might have. Their website is www.doggonenatural.com. The store also sells treats, toys, leashes, harnesses, etc.

A dog on a good diet will have great muscle tone, clean teeth, good breath, shiny coat, and most of all they will be happy.

I feed my dog Eukanuba. Yeah if i could afford it i would give him a mixed raw/dry diet but i can't. Also, Eukanuba shouldn't be thrown in with those other foods. Science Diet, Beneful and Iams are wheat based which dogs are naturally slightly allergic to which is why those brands suck. Eukanuba isn't...plus it's the only thing that didn't give my dog the runs when he was a pup (adopted him when he was in pretty bad shape) so i stuck with it.

I know that a lot of people used to use Canidae, but I have heard that people have been unhappy with it lately. Perhaps they changed their formula.

Eukanuba German Shepherd. She's a pug but I'm hoping with enough time she'll turn into a Shepherd.

The first few ingredients in Eukanuba is Chicken byproducts and corn. You're right about the wheat but they are corn based. I think corn digestive level is around 50% which is lower than wheat.

Feeding a good holistic kibble will not cost you anymore than Eukanuba because you will actually have to feed less food. You have to feed more of a crap food because of all the fillers they put in it. By feeding them an appropriate food they will utilize everything in it therefore you will feed them less.

I highly recommend a food called Great Life. It's probably one of the best kibbles you can buy.

Rddy,

I used to use Wellness back in the day and at one time it was a decent food. However in the past few years they changed their manufacturing company. The company was bought out by bankers who wanted to sell the food in stores like petco/petsmart so they could make more profit. In order to do this they had to lower the quality of their meats so they could sell the food cheaper to wholesalers. This is one reason why I don't recommend Wellness anymore.
