What? No Obama HC speech thread? - September 9, 2009, 11:09 PM

Yall miss me, you know you do. Where's all the non-sportbike controversy?? I see a bunch of bike related threads. wtf?

I'll summarize for those who missed it.

Obama: "All your healthcare are belong to us!"

Dude is actually an incredibly gifted speaker. Those Republicans that were waving plans and especially the dude that shouted "you lie" are incredibly childish and disrespectful. Oh, and the "you lie" guy - he's entirely wrong to boot.

Rep. Joe Wilson

There are many points that still do not add up even after this speech. It would be foolish to think that charging a fee to the insurance company for "high insurance premiums" (who decides if they are high? What is the criteria? What are the exceptions? etc...) would not simply be passed to the consumer. And if the consumer decides to 'fire' said private company and go with the public option, wouldn't that defeat one of his basic foundations that he put forth at the beginning of the speech: "The health industry is 1/6 of the economy. We are not looking to put them out of business." ?

Lots of issues to be dealt with still. Many questions to be answered.

It was a very good speech that did a great job of outlining the plan in a very understandable manner. I have never seen such disrespectful behavior from Congress towards any President, absolutely unacceptable. As for the republican response afterwards, I understand they have to be prepared and write their speech well ahead of time, before hearing Obama's, but it really did a bad job and only mentioned issues that Obama had already said were points of controversy and further clarified.

well he did say that many points need to be ironed out and that both sides need to help out on that. I think that in theory its a good plan. I really agree that everyone should have basic health insurance just like they should have car insurance.

Republicans are wack

...like Obama said...this is a test of our character and morals...we'll undoubtably fail in the long run.....

"ur sick?..man that sucks...it's terminal? sorry to hear - well, get well soon" NEXT! "u have breast cancer? ok ur covered....wait...u had acne 20 years ago and forgot to disclose that..sorry but we're dropping you...get well soon" NEXT!

makes absolutely no sense two sides can't come together on an issue such as this...i mean it's health..without it...what'chu got?

rich get richer and the poor die tryin

I did like John Mccain's lil crippled thumbs up though awesome speech though

Not backing the actions, but Id say there is a level of necessity. Our nation was built on challenging authority. Throw on BBC and watch parliament, those fuckers are crazy and will throw stuff at each other!

Yup, you should see them Asian parliaments, people brawl over there.

I'd pay to see Hillary Vs. Palin, or Bill vs. Dubya, make for some good entertainment.

I dont consider health care a right. Health care is a luxury. I feel entitlement is/has been growing dangerously fast.

You guys don't really think this about reform do you? It's another government hand out to insurance companies. Obama is in bed with them like Bush was in bed with the war/oil industry.

Don't believe the hype. The hype is a sequel.

Presently we have one party with two heads. The heads bicker over that which they devour, but in the end, the same beast is devouring the same meal - our money. It's somewhat commical to watch them fight. One head calls the other communist while the other responds by calling them racist. But really, who cares? You're fucked either way.

I'm guessing you didn't actually watch the speech then, cause 90% of the plan is putting pressure on insurance companies by forcing a more competetitive marketplace and not allowing them to deny coverage to the people who need it the most, not by government subsidizing of current healthcare rates
