What would you do? - January 30, 2013, 03:04 PM

My wife's friend from work, who is a close friend, and my friend as well buys my new baby a bunch of clothes. Like everything from bibs to hats to booties.

All Harley Davidson! WTF?

My wife and I both feel bad because she spent a lot of money... but serious lady. Do your homework. My wife wants to be loyal to her friend, so suggested he wear it a few times to daycare when I'm not around before he out grows it.

I suggested eBay or burning it! haha!

My wife was like, "Everyone knows how much we are into bikes, and she put a lot of thought into this."

She couldn't have put that much thought into it... I have owned a Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Triumph... have a Triumph tattoo for shit sake!

We decided we will put it on him, take one picture, send it to her phone
(not Facebook where people will see), then he can wear this stuff around the house till he out grows it.

Just thought I would share this with others who understand.

Like you said one pics is enough to show her that he's worn it, but it's not that big of a deal. Baby will out grow the stuff VERY quickly. Free clothes is free clothes.

This.

My boy, as well as every other child, went through clothes so fast. I hardly even noticed what he was wearing.

They grow out of things quick, and they also ruin clothes quick, so go ahead and use them until the kid outgrows them

I just don't want him seen in it... could prompt others to purchase similar.

Of course i tried to rationalize this with non-moto people at the office... and they had know fucking clue! They were like, "Don't be an asshole, he is only baby! Who gives a fuck?"

I quickly shut them up when I suggested buying all of their kids Cowboys jerseys.

Meh, I'm not a huge fan of Harleys, but don't hate them. At least Harley Davidson makes some cool moorsickles.

Was a very nice gesture on her part, use the clothes. It ain't a fucking pink bunny suit.

Not hate, but its just not my thing.
Football fans are very passionate about their teams.
Nascars fans of passionate about their auto manufactures.

Why can't I be as passionate about what we ride in our house?

I havent seen too many Truimph onesies out there, more than likely HD is about the only motorcycle related kids stuff she could find.

And look at it this way, your kid will throw up, piss and shit on HD name and logo almost as much as HD has done to themselves.

Harley has made a lot of pretty awesome bikes over the years. My grandpa drove a 3 speed suicide shifter HD on islands in the Pacific in WWII.

I'm no huge fan of Harley because of their inability to grow with the MC industry and tech, but as a maker of motorcycles they haven't been all bad, and sometimes made some really cool stuff. I'd pay a ridiculous amount of money for the 3 speed my grandfather rode.

haha!

He has a ton of bike clothes already. A lot of people found a lot of cool stuff with just generic bikes on it. Which is cool by me. I'm not trying to be ungrateful. It was a wonderful thought, just poor execution. My biggest concern is that family and friends will see him in it and start buying only HD stuff.

With a name like Ryder... everyone wants to buy him moto stuff.

While I can understand your brand loyalty (or lack thereof), I can't help but call you on your foolish, sophmoric attitude toward 'baby clothing'. It'll be okay, let him 'sport' it for a while.

Poor kid, will have to live up to Dad's expectations when it comes to motorcycling and the likes.
