What's the deal with Cricket Broadband? - September 16, 2009, 05:18 PM

You can buy this modem and for $40/month get wireless broadband via 3G wireless network.

But when I look at their coverage map, it sucks.

Does this mean that outside of these very few select Metro areas, there is absolutely no broadband coverage, or is there still some coverage but not at 3G speeds? Anyone have any idea?

"Throughput speed may be limited if usage adversely impacts our network, service levels or exceeds 5 GB per month."

F*ck that.

If Cricket sucks, is there anything similar that is better, at comparable price point?

What part of VA are you in?

There's a new service called Clearwire that's pretty screaming, but I don't think they're up here in DC yet.

I've got a friend in Richmond who uses them and is very satisfied with the speed and price point.

I have Sprint broadband. Have had it for almost 3 years now. I originally got the unlimited plan and have been grandfathered in for TRUE unlimited usage (can leave that bitch on all night downloading porn ) at approx $60 a month. Coverage is way better than Cricket.

Data rate is also top notch, better than DSL.

I have Verizon broadband wireless for $60/month. Coverage is excellent, rate is decent, but there will be pain if you go over the 5GB limit. They charge up to 25 cents per MB. Funny thing is, you can get a 10GB limit for $199/month.... which is why the company just got me 2 units @ the $60 tier.
