What's led to the reduction in forum activity? - October 27, 2016, 07:04 PM

Original/early members getting older, starting families and no time?

Quit riding, change of hobbies?

Less new members because the economy tanked and people aren't taken on riding?

Facebook?

Seems like there are plenty of earlier members at least lurking.

Other forums (not just bike ones) are noticing a decrease in activity too.

Bbs are great to research technical issues. The social aspect changed from a community to "me" due to social media.

I'm not 27 anymore and running 211/33. I'm 42 and have people depending on me for mortgage payments and upbringing.

I think the big killer was Face book groups.

I noticed it off the break. Once FB open up to non college folks and the word got around...and people were able to make there own groups, be there own admins and let there friends be there admins...it just thrived, along with the wide spreading of smart phones.

The app for this place was never extremely friendly or visually exciting, but FB apps gave you the same thing as sitting at a computer.

We should have made an FB page the coincide with this place so certain topics could be sent here for discussion.

Also the messenger feature, being able to see a little bit of the person who speaks in the threads....

Im still connected with Most of the main members from here on FB....so it do not feel as though I lost contact with them at all...

when I look at the metrics for my Gov site....60% of our traffic is via smart phone, tablets and suck. My first 2 years was spent recoding 10,000 pages for Responsive web design.

Pretty much this stats are for most Gov sites...

So im sure people may have left for the easier pages of FB.

I downloaded the app for here and i didnt like it much at all. So i only get on when im at a desk top.

I know people who access the web via phone 90% of the times.

I do know that the sex trade did play a factor also.

New girls join...met biker boy 1....things goto shit...biker boy 2 now dating biker girl...now biker boy 1 salty...and vice versa.

Dot com fell apart from the sex trade...it was way more prolific over there than here.

I was a witness..

...and a participant......oh my.

Winter season as well so people be puttin' up their boots. Plebs!

I like forums more than FB. Conversations are ongoing and archived. It's not a touch and go affair or a competition for likes such as FB. For a while I perceived the DC-Moto FB page was affiliated with this forum.

The anonymity of forums is fun too. You get to have online personalities such as the infamous Jaycee

Damn it was so funny to read about him

Rob's fault.
As always, as it ever was.

I met a lot of lifelong friends on this board, but we mostly talk via FB now.

I stay on the board mostly because I feel a sense of loyalty. The board linked me up with lifelong friends for a hobby I love. Even if I am riding a rolling oil leak now

Basically? In a word?

Butthurt.

There was a lot of butthurt and triggering on here for a while; folks retreated to their safe spaces.

Like others have said social media has really taken over since it's a lot more immediate. Also, I'm not sure if others is having this issue but I can read on the app but I can't post from it anymore since it just crashes so I don't use it. I used to post a lot when I was on the shitter, now I can't do that

Funny, I thought as I got older I'd have more time to ride and write; for me , just the opposite.

I've been able to squeeze in mebbe a dozen long rides over the last two years.....let alone write about riding.

Ivehad some family stuff that has had me flying back and forth to the Midwest evey other week for two years ( thank God for Spirit or I'd be broke).... and then had my own old man health stuff.

Still riding; but just realized I've only got X years left and my business ate up two of them.....time to get living again.

I'll be here more.

Roll back to the last version of forum runner. Or reinstall.

Good to see you still around.

How's the carpentry business been? I know you said about 2 years ago you secured a noteworthy contract that would begin absorbing a lot of your time.
