What's your favorite repair shop/person for BMW car? - August 13, 2008, 09:03 AM

I need to change the brake pads and rotors on my 2002 BMW 525i, and I also need someone to look into an intermittent refusal to start!

So, please let me know if you have a favorite repairshop/person who knows its way around Beemers.

Thanks!

are you mildly mechanically inclined?

I did the rotors and pads on my E46 a month ago and it was stupid easy. It took an hour.

Just walk into a domestic shop and tell them you're Techno Viking. I bet it will get fixed.

How soon do you need this done? I can help you with this if you want.
I experienced way better service at Farifax BMW than I did at Sterling..

As far as dealerships go, your experiences may differ... Good techs are GOOD techs no matter where they are... I know several really good techs at both places and at other places for other car lines

I have looked around for new pads and rotors and learned that you have to reset the brake liner sensor and set up a new connection to the sensor. Did your E46 have this brake liner sensor? Was that easy to figure out? Also, did you use a regular car jack, or did you have a good lift?

Besides the rotors/brake pads, I still have to find someone who can look into the intermittent failure to start. The engine cranks over just fine, but it is as if there is no fuel to fire up the engine, or no spark to light the fuel. I couldn't even begin to work with this part of it, unless it is tied into the brake liner sensor (Beemer techs may have come up with a new fool proof way of getting people to change the brake pads and rotors! )

Hmm... Does this relate also to individual BMW techs in Sterling? See above!
