Where to buy firearms? - December 4, 2007, 02:13 PM

Just wondering where everyone buys their firearms. I'm going to be making a purchase and need to see what places have good prices.

Thanks

What are you looking for? Private sale may be the way to go.

But I know several people that don't like the way it fits in their hand compared to other brands. Also many complaints of "Smoke Stacking" have been reported with that gun. The XD .45 is value priced already and comes packaged with several nice items, so don't be expecting a huge difference from gun shop to gun shop.

If I were looking for that handgun, I would be checking pawn shops or gun consignment dealers first. Those guns were selling out like crazy last year and I am certain some have shown up on used shelves by now at good prices with less than 500 rounds through them, which is break-in for that handgun.

Again, not to dis that gun, but I personally don't like the feel of that gun, although I know some people really do. Springfield has done a kick ass job of promoting it in ALL the gun magazines. Just remember that the same magazines doing really favorable reviews also accept advertising dollars. Do yourself a favor and check a few different brands & models out if possible before you decide is all I am suggesting. But what do I know?

I love the way the XD45 shoots and feels, although I only had it for a short time. Nice weapon.

In your case Bogert, it's too bad that Shooter's Paradise burned down. The owner was former TOG and would have probably hooked you up. If you can't find a good deal on a private sale, check out Virginia Arms in Manasshole. The owner is a racer and runs a quality business. They are also a great place to use as a transfer if you buy a weapon out of state.

Guzz, are there any good shooting ranges that rent pistols out your way?

Bernie's his name. I raced with him in the WERA National Endurance series at Nelson Ledges in September. His last name escapes me at the moment, but check page 100 in Roadracing World if you need it. He (and I) are listed under the results for lightweight superbike. He's awesome on an SV... and a really nice guy. Tell him I said hi if you see him.
