Where to get small quantity of 2" bar stock? - June 20, 2014, 02:37 PM

I need to get my mitts on a foot of steel 2" square tube stock. I'd even buy 4 feet if I had to. Tried Fastenal and BMG Metals but you have to buy the whole stick of 12 feet. TS, Lowes, HD don't have big boy stuff.
Any other ideas?

In a hurry or can you wait for shipping?

Order Mild Steel A500 Square Tube in Small Quantities at OnlineMetals.com

*edit* If you are in a real hurry and don't mind driving a bit, I have a couple pieces sitting in my garage.

How fast do you need it? I can come up with something for you. Dodge might be a good source too.

Tracktor supply in Winchester had bar stock. Not sure if it's what you need but when we went to that one I noticed they had it.

Yeah I am old enough to know better. Thing is, I just don't care.

Not super fast. I was hoping to do a project this weekend though. Silly me.
1/8" wall preferred. Need to modify my spare tire carrier.

McMaster-Carr

Set the filters to 2x2 steel

Place your order today it will be at your address Mon eve.

2x2 sq low carbon general use steel tube with your choice of wall thk of .083, .120, .188, & .250

Piece of 1 ft in above walls ranges $14-$24 + shipping. They can ship you 1, 3, or 6 ft length.

McMaster-Carr kicks ass. Extremely reasonable shipping and the best website in the world.

If you are really desperate.... I have a pc of 2 x 2 x 1/8 wall thickness, 4-7/8 long, in stock here in Gaithersburg.

Have a friend over by Wolf Trap that sells metal drops. I'll see if he's got anything.

Potomac Steel in Springfield told me they sell drops, but I haven't looked at what they have.

This is the response from my friend that sells drops (near Wolf Trap)....

Yes. I have 2" square steel tubing.

1. I have both 1/8" and 1/4" wall.

2. In 1/8", I have two pieces each about 4 1/2 ft long. In 1/4", I have two long pieces (??) that can be cut. The 1/8" can be cut.

3. $10 for a 1/8" piece uncut. Make a fair offer for a cut of the 1/8"
or for the thicker wall, as I have to drag it out of my crawl space and cut it and put it back.

PM me and I'll give you his contact details
