Where should we move next? - December 12, 2007, 10:38 AM

The g/f and I now live in Alexandria but would like to live closer to the metro rail, say within walking distance. As of now we have to take the metrobus to the metrorail and the 15 minute commute to DC takes 45 minutes with all the transfers.

Although we like VA, we could move just about anywhere within the metro area. However the other key is that we don't want to be anymore than 15 miles from the district. Let me know if you have suggestions of nice apartment complexes or condo/townhouses for rent.

Thanks

I know a coupl eof people who live down by huntington metro in some of the apartments on huntington ave who like it. My sis also lives across from rockville metro station, and that whole area is turnign into a pretty nice downtown. both are right around the beltway, which is about the 15 mile mark. You can also try old town alexandria, by the king st. metro, or near van-dorn metro, where there are lots of apartment within a mile or so.

Just remember, prices go up exponentially at you get closer to a metro station.

What's your price range?

How about a 1 bdrm with office or den (2nd bdrm but only 10x11) in downtown Bethesda, less than a mile from Bethesda metro for $1250? It's available in a few weeks. I just moved out of it.

Yes, very cheap, Cracka. Water is paid, but you pay electric and gas. I lived there for seven years! It includes assigned parking directly in front for two vehicles (or a trailer and an SUV as I did), so close you could spit on someone parking in your space. 1 full bathroom. Central air and heat. Washer and drier are in a laundry room around the corner of the building. Apartment is around 900 sq feet by my est. Wired for cable and phone in both bedrooms. No fewer than five small closets too. 2nd floor apartment with East and West windows. All windows replaced in 2006.

My wifes best friend is doing her post-doc work with NIH. After doing chauffeur service for her to find a place to live near her job, she settled on an apt in bethesda for similar price of what JP mentioned.

Alex, a two-bedroom for around $1250 in downtown Bethesda? Most are over $2000. I bet your wife's friend lives in the same building I did.

There's an apartment for rent in my building in Bethesda..not sure how much probably around $1300.00. My 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment will be up for rent in about the next 3 months if you can wait. It's $1843/mo but it's $100.00/month for a parking spot in the underground garage. Utilities included. The master bedroom is 20 x 10 (I kid you not); second bedroom is very large too. Big closests. It's an older building and doesn't have some of the "amenties" that the other more expensive places have. If you're too lazy to walk 6 min to the metro there is a free trolley that pics up in front of the building and drops at the metro.

THe one drawback, I used to be neighbors with Johnny V but he moved now, so it's safe

Different place, but about two blocks on the other side of Wisconsin... but about a block from Jen and Don.

My place allows pets too, with a deposit. It's garden-style with only about 30 units in the whole 2-story building. It's like Melrose Place and we've all slept with eachother.
