Where would you want to live and why? - June 26, 2007, 12:59 PM

So, the other day I was reading this "Best Places to Live" in the US thing - and the wifey and I were just commenting that we don't know where we want to be for the long haul - we're kinda like people without a connection to any place. A couple people at my work have said the same thing, and everyone is always seemingly wanting to move somewhere else...

So...

Where in the US (US only) would you want to live, and why? Bear in mind that your life doesn't change, only your location - you still need a job etc.

My wife and I are coastal folks, so we like to be around the water - but my sportbike hobby has me desiring mountains - and my wallet has me desiring cheap housing. Unfortunately, this place does not seem to exist.

So where would you want to be?

Definitly alot alike on the coast, mountains, and cheap. I like the Hampton VA area where my brother lives, unfortunately my girl doesn't like the water. So, seeing this is hypotheically, I have alsways liked the south, atlantic coastal. wouuld need a old boat and a nice breezy shack and I'd be happy. Went and checked out the Keys once when I was staying in Miami. Nice places, but the cheapness of my wallet comes to bear down on that idea.
So the Carolina coast somewhere off the beaten path

PM me if your in H'Town, MD.

Yeah - but where would you work on the Carolina coast. Raleigh/Durham are pretty far inland, and there's not much in Charleston or Wilmington.

Yeah - I agree except for two things:

1) Living in Cali costs more than living here.
2) Not enough trees for me - I like oaks.

Somewhere out West, in the Rocky Mountain region. Slower pace, less congestion, no humidity, big mountains, friendly people, outdoor recreation, etc.

I've lived all over, and that's where I most feel at home

im moving to Raleigh/Cary in a month and a half... dirt cheap housing, move within the company, ~2 hours from everything - beach, mountains, etc.

one day i'd like to move back up to southern CT... talk about 2 hours from everything!

I'd have no problems here if it were reasonably possible to live near the water (prices are so ridiculous, its not gonna happen) and if state/local gov wasn't so retarded.

I thought Mississippi did a lot of things wierd - VA makes them look ordinary.

And how anyone can afford both a house and a boat (like a sailboat, not a little fishing boat) around here is utterly beyond me.
