If the hard drive is "fried", pretty much your only recourse is to send it to a data recovery specialist, who will open your drive up in a clean room and manually retrieve the data from the platters.

This is an extremely expensive job. Hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Is any of the older music/pics on your Ipod currently? Ipod data isn't a oneway street (well only with itunes). Plenty of apps to rip stuff off your ipod back to your computer. Did your computer just stop working altgether?

if its not completely fried, then put it in the freezer overnight. From there you will get about 10 - 15 good minutes to move you major priority....

Let me know how it goes Roberta. I have a 1 TB external with hundreds of pictures on it that is broke. I need the same service.

Lol computer illiterate aite then....all the stuff you would like off the hardrive that you think you lost, is it on your Ipod? Itunes won't allow you to transfer things from ipod to computer, BUT there are plenty of free prgorams that you can use to transfer anything you want from your Ipod to your new hardrive. If this is the case, you won't need data recovery, just a new hardrive and one of the free programs.

Hey Guzz,

Your harddrive might not be dead, but the external case might be. Get a new case (with a receipt to return it if it doesn't work) and yank the harddrive out the old one.

Those cases can go bad just as easily.

I doubt it. It fell off the top of my pc and now it clicks. I tried the freezer trick but all that happened was I had cold storage that didn't work. I know the data will have to be eventually retrieved but I am trying not to get raped. There is always time for lube!
